Tesla delivered a record 115 Model Ys in India in July 2026, up 203% on June's 38, after a ₹9 lakh price cut. Cumulative sales since launch reached 578, passing 600 in early August. It was third in a luxury EV market of 736 cars, behind BMW's 390 and Mercedes-Benz's 174.

Ionity has opened its first London fast-charging hub at Greenwich Shopping Park: 12 bays rated up to 400 kW, live from 19 August 2026, with free charging for 24 hours from 21 August. It is the first of several the network plans for the capital. No Tesla can use the full 400 kW, so the value is bay count, not peak power.

A German importer will deliver the China-only Audi E5 Sportback from EUR 59,980 before VAT, roughly double its Chinese price. EU countervailing duties of 7.8% to 35.3% explain the gap: SAIC, Audi's Chinese partner, drew the top rate, while Tesla holds the lowest at 7.8% for its Shanghai-built cars.

A Close Brothers Motor Finance FOI of 17 English county councils found 39 of Hampshire's 157 public chargers unavailable — 27 switched off deliberately for low use — while Lancashire, West Sussex, Nottinghamshire and Essex hold no reliability data at all. Northumberland reports 97% uptime across 487 chargers, so the gap is management, not hardware.

BYD's Denza N8 claims 1,003 km CLTC and 10-70% in five minutes from a 130.15 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 pack. The range record comes from pack size, not efficiency — the China-market Model Y uses 9.5 kWh/100 km on the same cycle against the N8's 13.0 — and the five-minute figure implies a 940 kW average that no European network can deliver.

Geely will manufacture higher-priced models from its own portfolio in Volvo's European plants from 2028, with Ghent, Torslanda and Košice all in play. Building inside the EU erases the 18.8% countervailing duty plus the 10% import duty that Geely-group cars pay today — against the 7.8% Tesla negotiated for the Shanghai-built Model 3.

Every Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC electric vehicle will leave the factory with a native NACS port from the 2027 model year, ending the adapter requirement GM drivers have lived with since September 2024. Access covers more than 27,500 Superchargers. Nothing changes in Europe, where Tesla has always built to CCS2.

Tesla announced on Weibo that its Shanghai plant has produced its six millionth battery pack, 279 days after the five millionth on 12 November 2025. That is about 3,580 packs a day, or 1.3 million a year, from the factory that exports Model 3 to Europe.

Tesla has published a draft PCS1-to-PCS2-Lite retrofit procedure that gives Model Y Premium cars built before June 2026 vehicle-to-load capability. It runs 344 steps, needs a $1,750 power-conversion unit plus harnesses and coolant hoses, and delivers 2.4 kW through the charge port. Third-party adapters do more for a fraction of it.

Auto Trader data puts used electric cars at 25 days to sell against 30 for the market as a whole, with three-to-five-year-old EVs the fastest-moving stock of any fuel type at 20 days. Prices are rising too: that cohort is up 10.2% year on year, and Tesla accounts for three of August's ten fastest sellers.

A week after Tesla showed the first Cybercab with an integrated Starlink antenna, one has been filmed testing on public roads in Houston. Tesla's stated reasons are passenger entertainment and a permanent link between the company and the robotaxi fleet — and it says the Cybercab is only the first vehicle in the lineup to get it.

CATL's aftermarket arm Ning Service opened ten directly operated battery repair centres on 10 August 2026, including its first in Norway, and is targeting 100 cities by the end of the year. The pitch is repair instead of replacement: robot-assisted cell-level work that CATL says cuts a pack repair from about 100,000 yuan to 10,000 yuan, roughly $14,800 to $1,480.

Benchmark puts global EV sales at 1.85 million in July 2026, up 9%, with Europe surging 33% to 450,000 while North America fell 27%. Tesla's European registrations went the other way in almost every major market.

From 1 September a French taxi driver ordering an electric car can claim roughly €3,500, rising to about €5,500 where the car and its battery are both built in Europe. Orders must be placed by 31 December. For Tesla the money matters less than the gate: the scheme reuses France's environmental score, which the Berlin-built Model Y clears and the Shanghai-built Model 3 does not — and VTC drivers, who account for most of the Teslas working French streets, are excluded outright.

Tesla has added a $40 underseat storage tray to its shop for the Model Y, a moulded bin that slides beneath a front seat. It fits only cars built in the second half of 2025 or later, does not fit the six-seat Model Y L, and Tesla advises against fitting it under the driver's seat. It is the second Model Y accessory in a week to divide the fleet by build date.

Germany's electric-car purchase premium means-tests the applicant's income but puts no ceiling on the price of the car. By 1 August that had subsidised more than 50 luxury EVs, including 36 Porsches, a Mercedes G 580 and a BMW i7. SPD and Green politicians want a price cap; the environment ministry refuses.

Carla's July Elbilsindex puts the Tesla Model Y back at the top of Sweden's used electric car chart for the first time since September 2025, in the same month Tesla fell to 31st place among new-car brands with registrations down 60.1%.

Ron DeSantis rode Tesla's control-free Cybercab through scripted hazards at SunTrax, Florida's state-owned autonomous-vehicle proving ground, on 11 August 2026. The venue matters more than the endorsement: Florida already lets a car with no steering wheel carry passengers on public roads with nobody inside.

Zoox has published the framework behind the first US robotaxi cleared to charge passengers without a steering wheel or pedals, after an NHTSA exemption granted on 31 July 2026 that permits up to 2,500 vehicles a year until 2028. With no controls, supervised-mile testing was impossible, so validation rests on simulation and roughly 3 million miles of data benchmarked against US crash statistics. It is self-certified and landed three weeks after a fleet-wide recall — and it previews what Tesla's Cybercab will have to demonstrate.

The California Public Utilities Commission has cleared Waymo to charge for fully driverless rides across 18 counties from Sonoma to San Diego, opening Sacramento and San Diego as new markets. Waymo runs around 3,000 vehicles and has passed 20 million trips. Tesla, in the same week, was capped at 10 robotaxis in Nevada.

Tesla has enabled Vehicle-to-Load on Model Y Premium trims in the United States, including cars bought before the feature existed. It needs the $80 Outlet Adapter and delivers 2.4 kW at 120 V. Europe already has V2L on the Model Y Performance but has not been given this extension, and the adapter is a US-spec 120 V device.

BYD has launched the Qin Max in China from 109,900 yuan for the electric version, using its second-generation Blade battery and flash charging that the company claims takes it from 10% to 70% in about five minutes. It is not sold in Europe, but the platform underneath it is what BYD brings to European showrooms next.

High-mileage Model S sedans typically keep 85-90% of their original battery capacity after ten years and 200,000 miles, while resale prices have fallen far faster. One European listing with free lifetime Supercharging was found at EUR 14,000. A UK airport-taxi Model S has covered about 430,000 miles on its original pack and lost roughly 65 miles of rated range. On a car this old, the battery is not usually the expensive part.
