Tesla Recalls 19 Model Ys After a Torque Check on the Fremont Line Was Switched Off
Tesla is recalling 19 Model Ys built between 26 July and 4 August 2026 after a deactivated controller at Fremont removed the check confirming front suspension lateral-link fasteners were torqued correctly. Tesla estimates about 75% actually carry the defect; no crashes are reported. The cars are US-built, so European Model Ys from Giga Berlin are not affected.

From November, New EU Cars Need an Environmental Passport That Shows Battery Health
From 29 November 2026, newly type-approved cars in the EU must carry an Environmental Vehicle Passport under Euro 7, reachable by QR code inside the car and showing the traction battery's state of health. Euro 7 also sets battery durability floors of 80% after five years or 100,000 km and 72% after eight years or 160,000 km. The rule extends to all new cars and vans on 29 November 2027.

BYD Sold a Record 256,230 Electric Cars in August. Tesla Reports in October.
BYD sold a record 256,230 passenger battery-electric cars in August 2026, up 28.4% year on year, with total new-energy sales of 440,293 and record overseas sales of 189,466. In Q2 2026 BYD sold 557,090 BEVs against Tesla's 480,126, a gap of about 16%, after Tesla had led in Q1. Tesla does not report monthly, so the next real comparison comes in October.

Half a Million Battery Tests Say the Model Y Keeps 90% at 150,000 km
Aviloo's first Battery Report draws on more than 500,000 battery tests of 20 EV models taken between 2022 and 2026. The Tesla Model Y's median state of health runs from 94.5% at 50,000 km to 90.3% at 150,000 km, behind the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and well ahead of the air-cooled Nissan Leaf. Aviloo's main conclusion is that the spread between individual cars widens with mileage, so a model-level figure narrows the odds without settling them.

Italian battery-electric registrations rose about 36% year on year in August 2026 to roughly 4,400-4,500 cars, a 6.4% share and the country's weakest BEV penetration among Europe's large markets. Tesla moved the other way: the Model 3 and Model Y together managed 265 registrations, with the brand down almost 36%.

Tesla's In-Car Grok Switched Models. It Now Answers in 0.7 Seconds.
Tesla has confirmed that the Summer Update's voice assistant runs Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0, an end-to-end speech model that cuts time-to-first-audio from about 1.25 to about 0.70 seconds and can now reach cabin temperature, fan speeds, defrosters and buried menu settings. It needs firmware 2026.26 or later and the AMD Ryzen infotainment computer.

Waymo began carrying public riders in Denver, San Diego and Tampa on 1 September 2026, taking it to 14 US cities and more than 4,000 vehicles. Tampa matters most: Tesla has run a Robotaxi service there since 21 July, so for the first time the two approaches are selling rides in the same city on the same day. Munich and London are next on Waymo's list.

Tesla's report to NHTSA marks the driver-assist system 'Verified Engaged' and the pre-crash movement as a left turn at 24 mph. No public account of the crash mentioned automation, and the narrative and software version are redacted.

A German Charging Lounge Just Put EnBW and Tesla Superchargers on the Same Site
Bk World has opened a charging lounge in Munster with 20 charge points: 12 EnBW chargers up to 400 kW and 8 Tesla V4 Superchargers up to 250 kW. It is the first Bk World site to combine both networks, and it sits minutes from the A1 with an air-conditioned lounge, toilets and stocked fridges.

Norway registered 13,451 new passenger cars in August 2026 and 98.7% of them were battery-electric, a monthly record. Tesla took 627 of them, down 2,387 year on year, leaving it fourth for the month behind Volkswagen, Toyota and Xpeng. Tesla still leads 2026 overall on 15,040 cars, but its cushion over Toyota has shrunk from 9,173 to 3,740.

Every other release-note entry is carried forward from 2026.27.100.1 unchanged.

Tesla released FSD (Supervised) v14.3.8 on 26 August 2026 inside firmware 2026.26.6.5 for Hardware 4 cars in North America. The FSD release notes are byte-identical to v14.3.7 and v14.3.6, so nothing new is claimed for the driving stack. What changed is the firmware underneath it: this is the first build to carry the 2026.26 Summer Update and a current 14.3 FSD release in one install.

Firmware 2026.21.6 is a two-branch build: Hardware 3 cars get FSD (Supervised) v14.1 Lite, the first version bump the cut-down branch has had, and Hardware 4 cars get v14.3.7. Tesla says it distilled the HW4 v14 stack into HW3 so the older computer inherits reinforcement-learning work it could never have trained itself. North America only.
