Chinese Brands and Tesla Took a Record 13.3% of Western Europe in Q2
Chinese brands took 10.7% of new-car sales across 18 Western European markets in Q2 2026, up from 5.7%, and Tesla went from 1.7% to 2.6% - 13.3% combined, about 0.44 million cars. Schmidt credits Tesla's gain to prices falling towards EUR 30,000.

Tesla's Best Month in India Was 115 Cars
Tesla delivered a record 115 Model Ys in India in July 2026, up 203% on June's 38, after a ₹9 lakh price cut. Cumulative sales since launch reached 578, passing 600 in early August. It was third in a luxury EV market of 736 cars, behind BMW's 390 and Mercedes-Benz's 174.

Xiaomi's SU7 Has Passed 500,000 Deliveries. Its 2026 Target Is Slipping Away.
Xiaomi says the SU7 has passed 500,000 cumulative deliveries in 28.5 months, the fastest for any Chinese EV above CNY 200,000. But Xiaomi has delivered 216,322 cars in 2026 so far, 39% of its 550,000 target, and would need close to 67,000 a month to close the gap against a record month of 50,212.

Giga Shanghai Built Its 6 Millionth Battery Pack, 279 Days After the 5 Millionth
Tesla announced on Weibo that its Shanghai plant has produced its six millionth battery pack, 279 days after the five millionth on 12 November 2025. That is about 3,580 packs a day, or 1.3 million a year, from the factory that exports Model 3 to Europe.

Used EVs Now Sell in 25 Days in Britain, and Tesla Takes Three of the Top Ten
Auto Trader data puts used electric cars at 25 days to sell against 30 for the market as a whole, with three-to-five-year-old EVs the fastest-moving stock of any fuel type at 20 days. Prices are rising too: that cohort is up 10.2% year on year, and Tesla accounts for three of August's ten fastest sellers.

Britain Bought 110,761 Used Electric Cars in Three Months, a Record
SMMT figures put UK used battery-electric transactions at 110,761 in the second quarter of 2026, up 67 per cent year on year and a record 5.5 per cent of the used market. It was the fuel type's strongest quarterly growth since early 2024, and it arrived as petrol and diesel demand softened against rising fuel prices.

A Uranos and Dynata survey of 1,031 German Tesla owners and prospective EV buyers, conducted for Der Spiegel, finds Tesla holding just under 2% of the German market against a 2.6% peak in 2022 — even as nearly one in four new cars registered is electric. Half of the rejecters cite Musk's political statements.

Dutch Used EV Prices Fall for the First Time Since March
AutoScout24 data shows the average asking price for a used electric car in the Netherlands slipped 0.41% in July to €37,293 — the first monthly fall since March, after a climb of more than €5,000. One month is not a trend, but it is the first crack in a pattern that had used EVs rising while used petrol cars fell.

XPeng Targets More Than a Million Sales Outside China by 2030
XPeng plans to sell over a million vehicles outside China by 2030, with overseas business generating more than 70% of profits. Germany goes from about 70 dealers to 110 by year-end, Europe is at 290 outlets across 28 countries, and the 2026 goal is to double overseas sales past 90,000 units — while XPeng sells its VLA 2.0 driving software to Volkswagen.

Tesla Is Expanding Its Japan Delivery Network as Sales Climb
Tesla is raising its Japanese delivery locations by about 60% this year and more than doubling service centres from 14 to over 30, chasing the title of Japan's biggest imported car brand as early as next year. Japan sales hit just over 10,000 in 2025, roughly 90% up and a brand record, with Q1 2026 already at about half that total.

Romania July 2026: BYD Takes Record Fifth as a Chinese Model Tops the EV Chart
Romania registered 825 electric cars in July 2026, up 57% year on year, in a total market that fell 28.2%. BYD reached a record fifth place overall on 672 units and the Dolphin Surf became the first Chinese model to lead the country's EV chart, while not a single Dacia Spring was registered.

Electric Vehicles Now Displace 1.7 Million Barrels of Oil a Day
The IEA's Global EV Outlook 2026 puts the oil the world's EV fleet avoided burning in 2025 at about 1.7 million barrels a day — roughly Indonesia's entire oil demand — and expects that to triple to around 5 mb/d by 2030. China and the European Union account for most of it.

Battery-electric cars took 35% of the French market in July 2026 — 44,378 registrations, up 126.7% year on year — while petrol and diesel together managed 13.2%. Renault took three of the top nine places outright and the Tesla Model Y fell to 12th.

Kia Has Now Sold 100,000 Electric Cars in Germany
Kia has passed 100,000 cumulative battery-electric sales in Germany since the Soul EV arrived in 2014. First-half 2026 EV sales rose 87% year on year and electric cars accounted for 41.9% of Kia's German registrations against a 24.8% market average. A separate study of 9,953 battery diagnostics puts Kia first for capacity retention at 100,000 km.

The Kia PV5 Now Takes 37% of Europe's Small Electric Van Market
ACEA figures put Kia's PV5 at 37% of Europe's small electric van segment after 13,166 registrations in the first half of 2026. It is the best-seller in 12 countries and holds more than half the segment in five of them, including 63% in Denmark and 54% in the UK — from a standing start less than a year ago.

Survey: Tesla Is the EU's Worst-Perceived Car Brand, and Musk Is Why
The July 2026 Electric Vehicle Intelligence Report surveyed 1,861 consumers across all 27 EU member states and found Tesla last of 28 brands on net favourability at -4. Musk's own score falls from -31 to -47 when respondents are reminded of his donations to Donald Trump — a bigger drag on Tesla than BYD's Chinese state ties are on BYD.

ACEA's first-half 2026 figures put electric buses at 27.7% of the EU bus market while electrically-chargeable trucks reached 4.8%, up from 3.6% a year earlier. Both grew, and trucks grew faster in percentage terms — but the gap between the two is structural, not a matter of enthusiasm.

KBA figures put Tesla at 367 new registrations in Germany in July 2026, a 66.9% fall year on year and a 95% drop from June. It ends a five-month run of triple-digit growth, and it happened in a month when the German BEV market itself grew 61.7%.
