Battery-electric cars took 50.9% of Belgium's 32,124 new-car registrations in September 2026, the first month above half, up from a 46.2% record in August, with 39.1% for the year so far. Tesla was the third brand on 2,352 cars, more than double a year earlier, behind BMW and Mercedes. Private buyers went electric for 20.2% of their purchases, a first, and EV Belgium is asking the government to keep the company-car tax path unchanged.

Americans bought 266,630 electric cars in Q3 2026, 38.6% fewer than the tax-credit rush of Q3 2025 but 7.7% more than Q2, according to Cox Automotive's Kelley Blue Book estimates published on 12 October 2026. EVs were 6.5% of new-car sales. Tesla's US sales fell 20% yet it kept over 50% of the market; the Model Y and Model 3 hold 50.7% of the year to date.

The Volkswagen Group delivered 240,200 battery-electric cars in the third quarter of 2026, 4.7% fewer than a year earlier and about half of Tesla's 486,532 deliveries. Europe rose 19.6% to 209,100 and accounted for 87% of the total, while US electric deliveries fell 86.4% to 5,100 and China fell 30.1%. Electric models now make up about 40% of VW's European order backlog, and the Škoda Elroq was the group's best-selling electric car.

Tesla registered 2,749 cars in Portugal in September 2026, 14.0% of a 19,589-car market and more than any other brand, ACAP data show. Battery-electric cars took 47.7% of registrations, against 29.0% for the year so far. After nine months the Model 3 is Portugal's second best-selling car, 31 registrations behind the Peugeot 2008.

Uber's analysis of the cars active on its app in France puts Toyota, mostly hybrids, at 48.3% of the 2026 fleet and Tesla second at 10.6%, ahead of Mercedes-Benz, Kia and Hyundai. The Model Y is the platform's most-used electric car, ahead of the Model 3 and the BYD Seal. It leads Lyon for the first time and also leads Nice, and Tesla's two models make up nearly 20% of Marseille's fleet. Uber does not publish its electric share.

Poland registered 3,478 new battery-electric cars in September 2026, down 21.9%, while plug-in hybrids rose 48% to 4,958. Tesla's 671 registrations were 19.3% of the electric market, the same share as a year earlier, and it remains this year's largest electric brand with 2,977.

Czechia registered 2,141 new battery-electric cars in September 2026, up 57% for a record 11.2% share. Across nine months, Škoda leads with 33.9% of electric registrations and Tesla is second with 14.6%, but together they now hold less than half the market as Mercedes-Benz, Toyota and BYD grow faster.

Austria registered 9,723 battery-electric cars in September 2026, a record 33.6% of the market and 80.6% more than a year earlier, outnumbering petrol and diesel cars combined. Tesla climbed from fifth to third in the year's electric brand ranking, which on TeslAnt's arithmetic means roughly 1,550 Teslas in September alone.

Romania registered 871 new battery-electric cars in September 2026, up 16.8%, in a new-car market that fell 11.5% to 10,952. Tesla registered 19 of them after 5 in August, and BYD now leads Romania's January–September electric brand ranking by 20 units, although the Model Y is still the year's best-selling electric car.

CPCA data show Tesla China wholesale of 95,366 in September 2026, up 5.01% and the best month of the year. Domestic sales of 64,837 were a 2026 high but 9.35% below September 2025, exports fell to 30,529, and after nine months China is back ahead of exports, 381,088 to 361,972.

Mercedes-Benz Cars sold 68,400 battery-electric cars in the third quarter of 2026, its best quarter ever and 61% more than a year earlier, even as total sales fell 8% to 407,200 on a 31% slump in China. European electric sales rose 78%, and Mercedes says the electric GLC, CLA, GLB and GLA are sold out in Europe for the rest of 2026, the same 2027 horizon Tesla's configurator was already quoting for a new Model Y.

Tesla registered 12,372 cars in South Korea in September 2026 — 35.5% of imports and more than BMW and Mercedes combined, for an eighth straight monthly lead. The six-seat Model Y L took 8,690 of them, 78% of Tesla's Model Y registrations and a quarter of every imported car sold. Europe has no Model Y L on any price list.

Transport & Environment counts nearly 40 new battery-electric models launched in Europe in the first half of 2026, taking the mass-market total past 150 and lifting model choice by 50% in a year. The number of sub-EUR 25,000 models has doubled — a segment Tesla does not compete in.

Gasoline-only vehicles were 49% of global new-car sales in the first half of 2026, the first time on record below half, down from 73% in 2021. But hybrids outsold battery-electric cars 7.27 million to 6.87 million, and about 83% of the world's new vehicles still have an engine. Europe's BEV sales grew 32% while Tesla's own quarter fell 2.1%.

Tesla registered 291 cars in India in September 2026, a record and a 322% rise on a year earlier, moving it past Mercedes-Benz into second place in the country's luxury EV segment behind BMW on 502. In July it was third on 16%. Cumulative registrations crossed 1,000 in early October, helped by a sixth showroom and a line-up narrowed to two cars.

The KBA counted 88,599 new battery-electric cars in Germany in September 2026, a 34.5% share of a 256,774-car market and 94.7% up on the 45,495 of September 2025. Petrol fell 29.2% and plug-in hybrids were exactly flat. The brand-level breakdown that would show Tesla's figure is not published yet.

The Norwegian EV Association's Elbilisten 2026 survey, fielded 31 March to 3 May among close to 15,000 electric-car owners, found 24% would avoid Tesla for political reasons against 43% a year earlier. Scepticism toward Chinese brands moved the other way, from 23% to 31% — while Chinese-owned brands took 20,566 of Norway's 81,041 new EV registrations in January-July.

Auto Trader's 30 September 2026 commentary shows the used-EV share of enquiries for cars up to five years old rising from 20.0% on 28 August to 25.8% on 27 September, while diesel's share more than halved from 6.6% to 3.2%. Diesel reached a record 199.18p a litre. The average used diesel now takes 34 days to sell against 28 for an electric car — though EVs slowed too.

Ford registered 6,047 electric vehicles in the United States in Q3 2026, down 80.2% year on year, against a Q3 2025 inflated by buyers rushing the expiring $7,500 federal credit. GM and Hyundai report the same shape. The American EV market has settled at 5-6% of new-car sales rather than collapsed.

Kia registered 377,078 cars across the EU, EFTA and the UK in January-August 2026, up 9.0% for a 4.1% share and ninth place - the best growth in the top ten on ACEA's own tables. Kia says its electric registrations rose 58% to 4.8% of the European EV market. Tesla, at half Kia's total volume, still took about 9% of European battery-electric registrations.

Volvo Cars withdrew its full-year 2026 volume and cash-flow guidance on 2 October 2026 after third-quarter sales fell 10.7 per cent to 141,609 cars. Greater China dropped 40.6 per cent and the Americas 14 per cent, while Europe and rest of world grew 2 per cent. Fully electric sales rose 28.6 per cent to 45,060 cars, 32 per cent of the total, with electrified models at 53 per cent. The full report is due 23 October 2026.

Switzerland and Liechtenstein registered 7,833 battery-electric cars in September 2026, up 51.2% year on year, for a record 35.7% share of a 21,948-car market. The Tesla Model Y led all models on 1,679 units, more than five times the runner-up.

The UK registered 99,199 battery-electric cars in September 2026, its highest monthly BEV volume on record and 36.3% more than a year earlier, for a 28.3% share. The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling BEV with 9,929 units. Year to date the share is 26.2%, still short of the 33% mandate.

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026 and built 464,391, clearing the company-compiled consensus of 461,974 by about 24,500 cars. It is still 2.1% below the 497,099 of Q3 2025. Energy storage deployment reached 13.7 GWh.
