The KBA counted 88,599 new battery-electric cars in Germany in September 2026, a 34.5% share of a 256,774-car market and 94.7% up on the 45,495 of September 2025. Petrol fell 29.2% and plug-in hybrids were exactly flat. The brand-level breakdown that would show Tesla's figure is not published yet.

Ford registered 6,047 electric vehicles in the United States in Q3 2026, down 80.2% year on year, against a Q3 2025 inflated by buyers rushing the expiring $7,500 federal credit. GM and Hyundai report the same shape. The American EV market has settled at 5-6% of new-car sales rather than collapsed.

Tesla updated its North American configurator on 1 October 2026: every Model 3 in the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico now has a 16-inch centre screen, the Premium AWD drops from 4.2 to 3.8 seconds to 60 mph, and the Performance gains 18 hp and 7 miles of range. Prices did not move. Canada and Europe were not included, and vehicle-to-load still did not cross the Pacific.

Volvo Cars withdrew its full-year 2026 volume and cash-flow guidance on 2 October 2026 after third-quarter sales fell 10.7 per cent to 141,609 cars. Greater China dropped 40.6 per cent and the Americas 14 per cent, while Europe and rest of world grew 2 per cent. Fully electric sales rose 28.6 per cent to 45,060 cars, 32 per cent of the total, with electrified models at 53 per cent. The full report is due 23 October 2026.

The UK registered 99,199 battery-electric cars in September 2026, its highest monthly BEV volume on record and 36.3% more than a year earlier, for a 28.3% share. The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling BEV with 9,929 units. Year to date the share is 26.2%, still short of the 33% mandate.

Switzerland and Liechtenstein registered 7,833 battery-electric cars in September 2026, up 51.2% year on year, for a record 35.7% share of a 21,948-car market. The Tesla Model Y led all models on 1,679 units, more than five times the runner-up.

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026 and built 464,391, clearing the company-compiled consensus of 461,974 by about 24,500 cars. It is still 2.1% below the 497,099 of Q3 2025. Energy storage deployment reached 13.7 GWh.

BYD sold 463,561 new energy vehicles in September 2026, its strongest month of the year, with battery-electric volume at a record 273,143. Exports reached 180,700 cars, up 153.6% year on year and 39% of everything it sold. Year to date the company is still down 3.9%.

Italy registered 10,782 battery-electric cars in September 2026 for a 7.6% share, with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y taking the top two places. Tesla went from 265 cars in August to 2,132 in September, and Italy passed 100,000 EVs in nine months for the first time.

The family of Steven Alvarez, killed when his Model 3 left a Clute, Texas street at 104 mph in May 2026, has sued Tesla in Travis County alleging the car accelerated on its own. Police called it a probable medical episode. Tesla's own filing to NHTSA says driver assistance was Verified Engaged. The data that would settle it is redacted.

Tesla's Q3 2026 charging update reports 69 million Supercharger sessions and 2.4 TWh delivered, both up 29% year on year, with about 2,700 new stalls and 28.9 TWh delivered all-time. The 7.0 GWh it broke out for the Robotaxi fleet is 0.29% of the quarter - but Tesla's own comparison to 146,000 Cybercab charges implies a pack of roughly 48 kWh.

Transport & Environment's 1 October analysis concludes the EU will have enough locally made battery cells by 2030 to cover every EV touched by the Industrial Accelerator Act's local-content rules, directly contradicting an ACEA-commissioned study published six days earlier. More than 85% of active European capacity belongs to non-European companies.

On 1 October 2026 Tesla added an entry-level Model 3 RWD in Australia and New Zealand at A$45,990/NZ$54,900 — A$9,000 below the Premium, with the rear screen, ambient lighting and premium seat materials removed. The Model Y Performance fell A$4,500 to A$84,900 (NZ$95,900) because Tesla moved its production for those markets from Giga Berlin to Giga Shanghai. Premium and Performance Model 3 trims gain the 16-inch screen, dark headliner and V2L.

Spain registered 15,468 battery-electric cars in September 2026, up 62.7% year on year. Tesla took 3,732 of them (24.1%), with the Model 3 on 2,528 and the Model Y on 1,204, and the Model 3 finished just 30 units behind the Toyota C-HR for best-selling car of any kind. The quarterly picture is the opposite: Tesla's Q3 registrations fell 18.8% against Q3 2025, nine-month growth is only 9.5% against a market growing far faster, and BYD has moved ahead of Tesla year to date, 13,596 to 13,473. No European model made the monthly electric top ten.

Tesla has given the Shanghai-built Model 3 a 16-inch centre screen, a light grey premium interior, a black headliner and vehicle-to-load power export of up to 2.2 kW. China, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea are confirmed, with South Korean deliveries changing specification from Q4 2026. V2L also expands to every Model Y trim. The feature is tied to 2027 model year hardware and cannot be retrofitted or enabled by software. Europe's Model 3 is built on the same line, but Tesla has announced no European date, and the US Model 3 gets neither the screen nor V2L.

Hansjörg Gemmingen posted on 30 September 2026 that his 2013 Tesla Model S P85+ had reached 3,000,000 km, or 1,864,113 miles. He passed one million miles in June 2022, so the last 1.39 million km were covered at roughly 889 km a day. The car is on its fourth battery pack, fitted in 2023 at about 1.76 million km; by March 2026 that pack had itself done a million kilometres and retained about 85% of its capacity. The drive unit is the harder story: fourteen motors to 1.8 million km, mostly remanufactured Tesla units failing on coolant seals, and then a rebuild by EV Clinic in Zagreb that has run more than 1.2 million km since.

General Motors is on course to build about 35,000 of the new Chevrolet Bolt before production ends in the first quarter of 2027, against roughly 150,000 originally planned — a cut of about 75%. The figures come from Dontay Wilson, president of the UAW local at Fairfax Assembly near Kansas City, based on observed daily output rather than GM data; GM has not confirmed them. The shortfall has delayed the return of a second shift, leaving close to 1,000 workers laid off indefinitely. The proximate cause is the removal of the US 7,500-dollar federal purchase incentive in September 2025, which hit the affordable end of the market hardest. The Bolt is not sold in Europe, but it is the cleanest available measurement of what that withdrawal did to US EV demand in the same market and on the same date that Tesla lost the credit.

Tesla started rolling out firmware 2026.38 on 29 September 2026, a new branch that skips five branch numbers past the current 2026.32. Only one entry is unambiguously new: Visual Updates, giving the centre display higher quality images of the car and an enhanced park scene. The Supercharger Site Maps entry is the feature's first appearance in a vehicle release note, but Site Maps have been in the car since the 2025 Holiday Update, still require an AMD Ryzen computer, and still cover only two European sites. Wheel Selection and Apple Music are carried forward from earlier branches. At 0.4% of the tracked fleet, early installs skew towards Europe on Model 3, Model Y and legacy Model X, though the sample is too small to call a pattern.

Northeastern University researchers, working with Consumer Reports, intercepted the network traffic of 21 late-model cars and 30 companion apps. The Tesla Model 3 contacted 34 advertising, tracking and analytics domains and the Cybertruck 23, the two highest counts in the sample, against zero for the Mercedes EQS and Buick Envista. The paper attributes this to rich infotainment rather than misconduct, and notes the Teslas were measured more thoroughly than most of the sample. The Tesla app, by contrast, reached nine such domains where the GM and BMW apps reached more than 45, and it was not among the seven apps caught sending personal data to third parties.

BMW released pricing and homologated figures for the electric i3 alongside the wider new 3 Series range on 29 September 2026. The i3 40 xDrive starts at EUR 59,900 with 275 kW and 710 km WLTP; the i3 50 xDrive is EUR 65,900 with 345 kW, a 108.7 kWh net battery and 912 km. Both charge at up to 400 kW, 10 to 80 per cent in 21 minutes. An M60 xDrive follows in 2027. Series production began at Munich in August.

In an 8-K filed on 29 September 2026, Tesla disclosed a $20 billion delayed draw term loan arranged through Citibank and two Wells Fargo revolving facilities worth $8 billion and $2 billion. The same filing terminated the $5 billion revolver Tesla had held since January 2023 and never used. No loans are outstanding under the new facilities, and Tesla says it does not plan to draw on them in 2026. The company has guided to more than $25 billion of capital spending this year against $8.53 billion in 2025.

On 28 September 2026 China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and six other authorities published a five-year plan for the battery industry. It targets solid-state cells at larger industrial scale by 2030, lithium-ion good for 15,000 cycles, defect rates at parts-per-billion level, and obliges cell makers to build recycling and take-back capacity matching their sales — including in key export markets.

On 27 September 2026 NIO agreed to sell a Geely Holding subsidiary 30% of NIO Power, its battery swap and charging unit, at a post-money valuation of about RMB 16 billion. Geely pays mostly in kind, contributing swap operator Yiyi Internet Technology plus RMB 640 million in cash, and the two will jointly develop unified swap standards with Geely building swappable models. NIO has separately said it will not add battery swap stations in Europe.

Firmware 2026.32.7 reached customer cars on 23 September 2026 with release notes identical to 2026.32.3. The branch's real addition — a network-level ad blocker in the car browser, worth most on older Intel MCU2 units — has never been documented. The 2026.32 branch now covers about 46% of the tracked fleet.

The Czech Transport Research Centre and AURES Holdings analysed Aviloo Flash Test diagnostics on 3,171 used plug-in vehicles from the Czech, Slovak and Polish markets. Battery-electric cars past 100,000 km held a median 90.3% state of health; those over six years old held 90.0%. For plug-in hybrids the age effect was far sharper, at 83.2%.

Bentley revealed the Torcal, its first EV, on 23 September 2026 and confirmed a day later that its second electric model will not arrive before 2030. The 2030 all-electric target was already dropped in November 2024; what is new is a flexible Crewe production line, ICE and PHEV output through at least 2035, and a 2035 date that is now conditional.

European Rally Champion Mikołaj “Miko” Marczyk covered 1,338 km across Poland in an Audi A6 Sportback e-tron performance without recharging, averaging 7.09 kWh/100 km over more than 45 hours. It beats Lucid's 1,205 km mark, and it consumed exactly the car's 94.9 kWh usable battery.

CAA drove 22 electric cars over the same 230 km route in Ontario on 16 September 2026. The Model Y placed second at 11.81 kWh/100 km and the Model 3 third at 11.85, behind the Toyota bZ, and both recorded the lowest public charging costs. But every car in the test charged at a Tesla Supercharger, and the Model Y added only 97 km in 15 minutes against a 110 km field average.
