Tesla has confirmed that the Summer Update's voice assistant runs Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0, an end-to-end speech model that cuts time-to-first-audio from about 1.25 to about 0.70 seconds and can now reach cabin temperature, fan speeds, defrosters and buried menu settings. It needs firmware 2026.26 or later and the AMD Ryzen infotainment computer.

Tesla listed a simplified rear-wheel-drive Model 3 in Hong Kong and Macau on 31 August 2026, at HK$205,000 and MOP252,000 — about 8.5% below the previous Hong Kong entry price. Range goes up to 572 km; Supercharging is capped at 175 kW instead of 250 kW.

Winnipeg-based Bison Transport, one of Canada's largest carriers, has begun testing the Class 8 Tesla Semi with its own drivers in the Chicago area — the second fleet to run a Chicago pilot this summer, two weeks before Tesla publishes the Semi's European specification at IAA Hannover.

Tesla has added a nine-item Dog Mode Collection to its online shop, from a $15 bandana to $145 water-resistant pet liners for Model S, 3, Y and Cybertruck. Pricing is in US dollars and Tesla has not announced European availability.

Hungary's occupational safety authority has banned work in three areas of the cell building at CATL's Debrecen plant after nine employees showed elevated nickel levels. Inspectors found workers had not been adequately supplied with protective equipment. Cell production at the site still has not started.

Tesla's European configurator has removed the Black and White interior from Model Y Premium and replaced it with Zen Grey at the same EUR 1,200. Model Y Performance keeps white as a paid upgrade, making it the only two-tone Model Y left in Europe. The colour is not new — it launched in China in April 2026.

Tesla is notifying US subscribers that Wheel and Tire Protection Plan rates rise on 1 October 2026 — Model 3 Performance from $16 to $24 a month, Model Y Performance from $20 to $24 — while the Cybertruck windscreen plan falls from $35 to $25. The plans are not offered in Europe.

Xiaomi Auto opened an international website and overseas social channels on 26 August 2026, stating that it will formally enter Europe in 2027 and inviting dealer and distribution partners. Its stated sequence puts right-hand-drive markets ahead of left-hand-drive ones.

The rear-wheel-drive Model 3 has gone from 534 to 572 km WLTP without a new battery, a new motor or a software update. The gain comes from a change of standard tyre to a low-rolling-resistance Giti, and it only holds if the car keeps its 18-inch wheels.

Bjørn Nyland tested the rear-wheel-drive Model Y and measured 360 km at a steady 120 km/h and 500 km at 90 km/h, from a pack the BMS reported as roughly 62 kWh including a 2.8 kWh buffer. The car held near-peak charging power to about 26% state of charge, which let it cover 1,000 km in the same total time as a Model Y Long Range, and it used less energy than a Model 3 Standard. European cars are Berlin-built with BYD LFP cells; Shanghai cars use CATL.

Univé, one of the largest insurers in the Netherlands, will write no new policies for Hongqi, Changan, Voyah, KGM, Leapmotor, VinFast, Jaecoo, MHero or Omoda, and only third-party cover for Dongfeng, Lucid, Firefly, NIO and Zeekr. The test is whether a damaged car can be repaired predictably — parts, repair instructions, trained body shops. Tesla is on neither list.

Tesla lifted the Cybertruck Dual Motor to $74,990 and the Premium All-Wheel Drive to $84,990 on 25 August, a $5,000 increase on each with no specification changes and no explanation. The Cyberbeast stayed at $99,990. Deliveries are running about a quarter below last year.

Tesla promised Powershare with Powerwall by summer 2026 after slipping it from 2025. Summer is nearly over, Cybertruck's lead engineer has no new date, and the reason is a genuinely hard problem: two grid-forming devices have to agree which one runs the house.

Tesla says it will formally inaugurate its Sparks, Nevada Semi plant next month, roughly five months after saying the site had entered volume production. The factory is designed for 50,000 trucks a year; analysts put 2026 deliveries at a fraction of that.

BYD opened pre-sales of the Da Han flagship saloon at the Chengdu Auto Show: a 102.3 kWh Blade pack, 1,000-volt architecture, a claimed 1,008 km CLTC and 10-70% charging in five minutes, from 249,900 yuan (about $36,850). The range figure is CLTC rather than WLTP and the car is China-only for now, but it lands squarely in the large-saloon segment Tesla vacated when Model S production ended in May.

Gartner's Digital Automaker Index 2026 puts Tesla first on 79.3% for the fourth consecutive year, with Nio, Xiaomi, XPeng, Li Auto and Rivian completing an unchanged top six. Mercedes is the best traditional maker at 11th; European brands average 33% against China's 53%.

ADAC's ten-year keyless review, published 18 August 2026, covers more than 850 cars: almost half could be opened with a relayed key signal and about one in three could be driven away. Only ultra-wideband cars resisted — and Tesla is one of seventeen brands for which ADAC found no adequately protected model, despite shipping UWB hardware since 2024.

Tesla has told its certified installers that Solar Roof tiles are no longer available to order and that it will supply only conventional solar panels from now on. After roughly seven years and about 3,000 US installations against a promised 1,000 per week, the tile is gone; panels, Powerwall and Megapack stay.

LG Energy Solution began production at its $2 billion Lansing, Michigan plant on 18 August 2026. From August 2027 it supplies the LFP prismatic cells behind Tesla's Megapack 3 under a $4.3 billion contract the US government confirmed in March, running to 2030 with an option to 2037.

BYD's Denza N8 claims 1,003 km CLTC and 10-70% in five minutes from a 130.15 kWh Blade Battery 2.0 pack. The range record comes from pack size, not efficiency — the China-market Model Y uses 9.5 kWh/100 km on the same cycle against the N8's 13.0 — and the five-minute figure implies a 940 kW average that no European network can deliver.

Sweden's Einride has ordered 500 Tesla Semis for five US states, the largest commitment the truck has ever had, taking its electric fleet from about 250 trucks to 750 over 24 months with Amazon as the named customer. None are bound for Europe, where Tesla's Semi timeline still points at 2027 and Einride's own autonomy work now runs through DAF.

Tesla has published a draft PCS1-to-PCS2-Lite retrofit procedure that gives Model Y Premium cars built before June 2026 vehicle-to-load capability. It runs 344 steps, needs a $1,750 power-conversion unit plus harnesses and coolant hoses, and delivers 2.4 kW through the charge port. Third-party adapters do more for a fraction of it.

Tesla is liquidating new, unused Model S and Model X components on the B-Stock bulk auction platform, sold by the pallet with starting bids as low as $100 against a retail value above $1.3 million. It is inventory clearance, not a parts-supply retreat — but it is where the independent repair trade will get its stock.

A week after Tesla showed the first Cybercab with an integrated Starlink antenna, one has been filmed testing on public roads in Houston. Tesla's stated reasons are passenger entertainment and a permanent link between the company and the robotaxi fleet — and it says the Cybercab is only the first vehicle in the lineup to get it.
