Tesla Europe published the Semi's European specification on 11 September 2026, four days before the truck's formal launch at IAA Transportation in Hannover. The numbers are official now rather than inferred from regional web listings, and they confirm Europe gets one truck rather than the Standard/Long Range pair sold in North America.

TeslAnt reported the 550 km and 800 kW figures on 25 August, when they appeared on Tesla's UK and Dutch sites and superseded an earlier 1.2 MW listing that turned out to describe the American truck. What today adds is Tesla's own confirmation, plus the consumption figure of 1 kWh/km and the half-hour charging claim for the European specification.

One truck, and a pack Tesla has not named

The single-variant decision is the substantive news. North America buys a 500-mile Long Range Semi on an 822 kWh pack or a shorter Standard Range; Europe gets one listing. The curb weight suggests which: at 9,100 kg the European truck is lighter than the US Long Range Semi and sits on the US Standard Range figure of under 20,000 lb. Tesla has published no European battery capacity, so that stays an inference from the weight rather than a specification.

The 40-tonne rating is what makes the truck sellable here at all: it is the standard maximum for an articulated combination across most of the EU, so a Semi homologated to it drops into existing haulage contracts without dispensation.

Charging is a deliberate European choice

800 kW is lower than the American truck's 1.2 MW, and it is the more useful number anyway, because of what it plugs into. The European Semi charges on MCS, the Megawatt Charging System that European operators and charge-point companies are standardising on, while the North American truck uses Tesla's own megawatt connector.

That means a European Semi can use somebody else's megawatt charger, and somebody else's truck can use Tesla's. Where megawatt truck charging barely exists yet, an open standard is worth more than a proprietary peak — a fleet buyer is being asked to trust a network several companies are building, not one. For a driver, the number that matters is the 30 minutes: roughly 60% of range inside the mandatory 45-minute break.

What is still missing

No European price, no on-sale date, and no homologated range figure — 550 km is a manufacturer number, not a heavy-duty type-approval result. Tesla has also not said whether European trucks will be imported from Nevada or eventually built closer to their market.

Against the competition the headline is respectable rather than commanding: Mercedes-Benz already has the eActros 600 working here with a 500 km range, and Volvo, MAN, Scania, DAF and Renault all have electric tractors on European roads. And Einride's 500-truck order — placed by a European company, with not one truck bound for Europe — remains the clearest measure of where Tesla can actually deliver today.
