Italian battery-electric registrations rose about 36% year on year in August 2026 to roughly 4,400-4,500 cars, a 6.4% share and the country's weakest BEV penetration among Europe's large markets. Tesla moved the other way: the Model 3 and Model Y together managed 265 registrations, with the brand down almost 36%.

Norway registered 13,451 new passenger cars in August 2026 and 98.7% of them were battery-electric, a monthly record. Tesla took 627 of them, down 2,387 year on year, leaving it fourth for the month behind Volkswagen, Toyota and Xpeng. Tesla still leads 2026 overall on 15,040 cars, but its cushion over Toyota has shrunk from 9,173 to 3,740.

Battery-electric cars took 48.9% of Dutch new-car registrations in August 2026 — 12,925 of 26,455 — as hybrids fell 6.1 points and LPG outsold diesel for the first time in a month. Kia led all brands on 2,835 cars. Tesla was ninth on 1,023 but grew 31.8% year on year, the largest gain of any top-ten brand, alongside BMW and Mercedes-Benz while Volkswagen Group and the Korean volume brands fell 18-25%.

France registered 36,159 BEVs in August 2026 for a record 38% market share, up 113% year on year. The Tesla Model Y led with 4,622 registrations, exactly double the Renault 5 on 2,316. Year to date France has registered 322,097 BEVs for a 30% share, helped by social leasing and a CEE subsidy worth up to 5,700 euros.

Dataforce puts Chinese-brand registrations in Europe at 813,096 for January to July 2026, narrowly ahead of the 812,452 they managed in all of 2025, with a record 11.2% market share in July. The growth is coming from plug-in hybrids rather than EVs, which is where the EU's tariffs do not reach.

BMW handed over its two-millionth fully electric vehicle in August 2026, an i5 M60 xDrive built in Dingolfing and delivered in Spain. European BEV sales grew 38% to 81,445 in Q2 and BEVs reached about 28% of BMW's European sales in H1, with the iX3 taking half of all new X3 orders.

Focus2Move data through the first seven months of 2026 keeps the Tesla Model Y first in global vehicle sales, up 19.6% year on year, ahead of the Toyota Corolla. The RAV4 is down around 25% over the same period, leaving a gap of roughly 200,000 cars. Japan is the clearest growth market; Europe is the exception.

S&P Global Mobility data puts US Model S registrations at 6,876 in the first half of 2026, up 64%, and Model X at 10,575, up 62% — both records against a 2025 base, both achieved in the six months before Tesla stopped building them in early May. Model 3 and Cybertruck fell, and the Model Y took nearly 70% of everything Tesla registered.

A Leboncoin analysis of ten high-volume electric models puts average five-year depreciation in France at 59%. The Tesla Model 3 loses 56% — €52,136 new, about €23,180 used — second-best in the group, while the Renault Zoé loses 65%. Used-EV demand is meanwhile surging as stock falls 30%.

Austria's electric fleet reached 304,328 cars at the end of July 2026, with 27.39% of the month's new registrations fully electric. Battery-electric has drawn level with petrol for the half year, and Tesla tops the brand ranking at 10.6% — a tenth of a point ahead of Škoda.

Europe registered 277,006 EVs in July 2026, up 51.4%, taking a quarter of the new-car market. The Škoda Elroq led on 10,015 units; the Tesla Model Y managed 5,094, down 3.8%, and fell out of the top ten — though it still leads the year to date by 48,000 cars.

Chinese brands took 10.7% of new-car sales across 18 Western European markets in Q2 2026, up from 5.7%, and Tesla went from 1.7% to 2.6% - 13.3% combined, about 0.44 million cars. Schmidt credits Tesla's gain to prices falling towards EUR 30,000.

Tesla delivered a record 115 Model Ys in India in July 2026, up 203% on June's 38, after a ₹9 lakh price cut. Cumulative sales since launch reached 578, passing 600 in early August. It was third in a luxury EV market of 736 cars, behind BMW's 390 and Mercedes-Benz's 174.

Xiaomi says the SU7 has passed 500,000 cumulative deliveries in 28.5 months, the fastest for any Chinese EV above CNY 200,000. But Xiaomi has delivered 216,322 cars in 2026 so far, 39% of its 550,000 target, and would need close to 67,000 a month to close the gap against a record month of 50,212.

Tesla announced on Weibo that its Shanghai plant has produced its six millionth battery pack, 279 days after the five millionth on 12 November 2025. That is about 3,580 packs a day, or 1.3 million a year, from the factory that exports Model 3 to Europe.

Auto Trader data puts used electric cars at 25 days to sell against 30 for the market as a whole, with three-to-five-year-old EVs the fastest-moving stock of any fuel type at 20 days. Prices are rising too: that cohort is up 10.2% year on year, and Tesla accounts for three of August's ten fastest sellers.

Benchmark puts global EV sales at 1.85 million in July 2026, up 9%, with Europe surging 33% to 450,000 while North America fell 27%. Tesla's European registrations went the other way in almost every major market.

Carla's July Elbilsindex puts the Tesla Model Y back at the top of Sweden's used electric car chart for the first time since September 2025, in the same month Tesla fell to 31st place among new-car brands with registrations down 60.1%.

SMMT figures put UK used battery-electric transactions at 110,761 in the second quarter of 2026, up 67 per cent year on year and a record 5.5 per cent of the used market. It was the fuel type's strongest quarterly growth since early 2024, and it arrived as petrol and diesel demand softened against rising fuel prices.

A Uranos and Dynata survey of 1,031 German Tesla owners and prospective EV buyers, conducted for Der Spiegel, finds Tesla holding just under 2% of the German market against a 2.6% peak in 2022 — even as nearly one in four new cars registered is electric. Half of the rejecters cite Musk's political statements.

AutoScout24 data shows the average asking price for a used electric car in the Netherlands slipped 0.41% in July to €37,293 — the first monthly fall since March, after a climb of more than €5,000. One month is not a trend, but it is the first crack in a pattern that had used EVs rising while used petrol cars fell.

A Deutsche Automobil Treuhand survey finds nearly one in two German owners of Korean cars would consider a Chinese brand next time, and one in five is clearly ready to switch — far above the openness among German-brand owners.

XPeng plans to sell over a million vehicles outside China by 2030, with overseas business generating more than 70% of profits. Germany goes from about 70 dealers to 110 by year-end, Europe is at 290 outlets across 28 countries, and the 2026 goal is to double overseas sales past 90,000 units — while XPeng sells its VLA 2.0 driving software to Volkswagen.

Tesla is raising its Japanese delivery locations by about 60% this year and more than doubling service centres from 14 to over 30, chasing the title of Japan's biggest imported car brand as early as next year. Japan sales hit just over 10,000 in 2025, roughly 90% up and a brand record, with Q1 2026 already at about half that total.
