Nearly half of the cars carrying Uber passengers in France are Toyotas. The next-largest brand is Tesla, and it is the only one in the top five whose entire share is electric.
Uber France analysed the tens of thousands of vehicles active on its app in 2025 and 2026 and released the results for the Mondial de l'Auto, which opens in Paris on 12 October. Toyota accounts for 48.3% of the active fleet in 2026, carried by Auris, C-HR and Corolla hybrids. Tesla follows with 10.6%.
The national ranking
| Rank | Brand | Share of Uber's active fleet in France, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Toyota | 48.3% |
| 2 | Tesla | 10.6% |
| 3 | Mercedes-Benz | 7.3% |
| 4 | Kia | 5.7% |
| 5 | Hyundai | 5.1% |
Among fully electric cars, the Model Y is the most used on the platform, followed by the Model 3 and the BYD Seal. Uber does not break the other brands down by powertrain, so the table cannot say how many of the Kia, Hyundai or Mercedes-Benz cars are electric. Tesla builds nothing else, so its 10.6% is electric by definition.
The cities tell a different story
| City | What leads |
|---|---|
| Paris | Toyota hybrids |
| Lille | Toyota hybrids |
| Lyon | Tesla Model Y, in first place for the first time in 2026 |
| Marseille | Model Y and Model 3 together make up nearly 20% of the fleet |
| Nice | Tesla Model Y, ahead of the Mercedes V-Class |
Paris, by far Uber's largest French market according to Automobile Propre, is still a hybrid city, and it is what holds the national figure where it is. Outside it, the Model Y leads in Lyon and Nice.
How far Tesla has come on the platform
When Uber last published a ranking, in October 2023, it counted about 35,000 cars on its French platform. Toyota hybrids dominated, the Model 3 had made the top five of electrified models, and the Model Y was described as rising fast. Three years later Tesla is the second-largest brand on the app, and the Model Y has overtaken the Model 3.
That corrects a point TeslAnt made in August. Covering France's taxi EV aid, we described the Model 3 as the default private-hire car in French cities. On Uber's figures, it is now the Model Y. Private-hire drivers remain excluded from that aid.
What Uber is not saying
Uber set itself a target of 50% electric cars in its French fleet by the end of 2025, and in 2020 set itself the aim of fully electric rides in European cities by 2030. It has not published the electric share of the 2026 fleet, so the ranking cannot show whether the 2025 target was met. Automobile Propre reads it as missed: with Toyota, mostly hybrid, at nearly half the fleet, 50% electric looks out of reach.
What it means for buyers
Private-hire drivers choose cars on running costs, reliability and resale value, which is the case for a Toyota hybrid. That more than one in ten of them now drive a Tesla, with the Model Y ahead of the Model 3, is a cost-of-ownership signal from people who drive for a living. It also matches the wider market: the Model Y was France's best-selling car of any kind in September.
