Battery-electric cars took 48.5% of the 31,949 new passenger cars registered in Belgium in October 2026, according to figures from the federal mobility ministry (SPF Mobilité et Transports) and the car-industry federation Febiac, as reported by the Belga news agency. A year earlier the share was 36.4%. In September it had passed half for the first time, at a record 50.9%.

Tesla registered 488 cars, 14.6% more than the 426 of October 2025, but fell from third place among brands in September to 20th.

The month in numbers

October 2026
New passenger cars 31,949 (-5.9%)
Battery-electric share 48.5% (36.4% in October 2025, 50.9% in September 2026)
Petrol share 31.3% (38.5% in October 2025)
Diesel share 1.5%
Market, January to October 352,353 (-1.5%)

October had one working day fewer than October 2025, which Febiac cites for part of the 5.9% fall. On the published shares, about 15,500 battery-electric cars were registered, against roughly 12,400 a year earlier. Febiac has not published an electric unit count, a private-buyer share or model figures for the month.

Brand ranking

Febiac's by-make table for October, with the top five and selected brands:

Rank Brand October 2026 Change on October 2025
1 BMW 3,308 -1.5%
2 Volkswagen 2,787 -3.0%
3 Mercedes 2,550 +1.7%
4 Peugeot 1,975 -11.0%
5 Renault 1,965 -2.7%
14 BYD 838 +83.4%
16 MG 785 -4.8%
20 Tesla 488 +14.6%
22 Leapmotor 389 +322.8%
28 XPeng 262 +201.1%

BYD and MG both registered more cars than Tesla, although their totals cover all of their powertrains, not only electric models. Geely, absent a year earlier, registered 220 cars, and Zeekr 151 against 8. Volvo fell 35.5% to 1,096 and Polestar 60.5% to 133.

The first month of a quarter

Tesla's fall from 2,352 registrations in September to 488 follows its delivery cycle. Cars reach Europe in volume for the last month of each quarter and are registered in a rush; the first month of the next quarter is thin. October did the same to Tesla in Italy and Portugal. On TeslAnt's estimate of the electric total, Tesla's 488 cars were about 3% of the month's battery-electric registrations.

The year-to-date table is steadier. Tesla is twelfth on 11,132 registrations, 41.8% more than the 7,851 of the first ten months of 2025, for a 3.16% share. It is 1,110 cars behind Volvo in eleventh place. BYD is 17th for the year on 7,510, more than double its 3,549, and MG 18th on 7,405.

What to watch

December is Tesla's next quarter-end month, when, on the pattern of previous quarters, its Belgian volume should rise again. November's figures, due in early December, will show whether the electric share returns above half after September's record.
