Tesla's Sentry Mode had been recording potential threats since 2019, but owners could only review footage after the fact. Version 2023.6 added live streaming: open the Tesla app and see what your car's cameras see, right now.
Co se změnilo
Sentry Mode Live Camera streams all external camera feeds to the owner's phone through the Tesla app. The feature works wherever the vehicle has cellular connectivity, showing real-time video from the front, side, and rear cameras. Owners can check their car from anywhere — a restaurant, office, or hotel room — without walking back to the vehicle.
The system requires Premium Connectivity for the cellular data needed to stream video. When a Sentry Mode event triggers (motion detected near the vehicle), the owner receives a push notification and can immediately view the live feed to assess whether the alert is genuine.
Proč to bylo důležité
Before Live Camera, Sentry Mode was reactive. You parked, walked away, and hoped for the best. If you received a Sentry alert on your phone, you had to physically return to the car or wait until you could review the USB footage. Live Camera made Sentry Mode proactive: you could check in whenever you wanted and verify alerts instantly.
This transformed the ownership experience in high-theft urban areas. European city centres — where street parking is common and vehicle break-ins are a persistent concern — were exactly the use case. An owner parking in an unfamiliar neighbourhood could periodically check the live feed. If a Sentry alert triggered during dinner, a quick glance at the app could confirm it was just a passing pedestrian rather than a threat.
Dopad na evropské majitele
Sentry Mode Live Camera launched globally in 2023.6 on all Tesla models with external cameras. The feature was immediately popular in European urban markets. Cities like Paris, Rome, Barcelona, and Amsterdam, where dense street parking means vehicles are constantly surrounded by pedestrian traffic, saw high adoption.
The Premium Connectivity requirement was the main limitation. European owners without the subscription could not access live streaming, though they could still review stored Sentry clips after the fact.
Kontext
Live Camera arrived alongside Dog Mode improvements, Zoom Meetings integration, and Trip Planner in the 2023.6 update. It built on Sentry Mode's existing infrastructure, using the same cameras and detection algorithms while adding the streaming capability. Tesla later enhanced the feature with Sentry Mode Preview in 2024.14, which automatically sends short clip previews to the phone when events trigger.
