Tesla has renamed its driver-assistance software on its European websites. By 8 October 2026 the product pages carried the heading Tesla Assisted Driving, as Sawyer Merritt showed in a screenshot of the German-language page. The tracker site Not an FSD Tracker checked ten of Tesla's European sites the same day and found every /fsd address redirecting to a new /tesla-assisted-driving page.
What changed
| Tesla website | Name now shown |
|---|---|
| Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain | Tesla Assisted Driving |
| Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, United Kingdom | Tesla Assisted Driving |
| France | Tesla Conduite Assistée |
| Norway | Tesla Assistert kjøring |
Tesla is not using the abbreviation "TAD", and so far the change is confined to the websites. The photo on the new German page still shows "FSD (Supervised)" on the car's touchscreen, and Tesla has not said whether the label in the car will change. On the Dutch page the heading is new, but the text below it still sells "FSD (Supervised)" as a subscription at €99 a month.
Why now
Germany's Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV) disclosed the deal on 6 October. Minister Steffen Bilger said talks with Tesla in September had reached "a constructive agreement". The ministry called the "FSD" name "somewhat misleading", because the system does not take over the whole driving task: it can support accelerating, braking and steering, and the driver must stay attentive throughout. Tesla offered to rename it.
The ministry also said the two sides had agreed that the system may exceed the posted limit by "a maximum of ten percent", and that the driver stays "100 percent" responsible. On that basis Bilger says he will push for timely EU-wide approval, as TeslAnt reported in the German minister's backing for the EU vote.
The speed cap is the harder half
The rename costs Tesla nothing technically. The speed cap does. FSD's Speed Offset setting lets the driver choose how far above the limit the car will travel. Sweden urged the EU to reject FSD unless that ability goes, and a Brussels study found FSD over the limit on 55% of the 30 km/h segments it drove. Not a Tesla App reports that Tesla has not confirmed whether the 10% cap is in place.
What it means for owners
In the eight countries where FSD (Supervised) is approved (the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovenia, Czechia and Croatia), the only change so far is the name on the website. Germany has still not approved the system for its own roads, and Slovakia says its recognition letter is days away. Approval across the EU still needs a qualified majority, meaning 15 of 27 member states representing at least 65% of the EU population, in a committee that next meets in December.
In Britain, the rename comes ahead of a legal deadline. From 7 January 2027, the Automated Vehicles (Marketing Restrictions) Regulations 2026 reserve eight terms, including "self-driving", "driverless" and "autonomous", for vehicles authorised or listed as able to drive themselves. Tesla's UK page now shows Tesla Assisted Driving with a sign-up for updates and no price.
The name is not new to Tesla: its Chinese owner's manuals switched to it in May 2026.
