Tesla has started calling the computer that runs FSD the "SI Computer". The owner's manuals for software version 2026.38.3 replace "AI Computer" with "SI Computer", Drive Tesla reported on 27 October 2026. Not a Tesla App found the change in the Model 3, Model Y and Cybertruck manuals, in places where the FSD section used to say "FSD Computer". Tesla has not announced the rename.
What the manual now says
The clearest example is a note about the interior cabin camera in Pet Mode and Sentry Mode. It now reads: "This feature is not supported in vehicles with SI Computer 2.0 or 2.5. Touch Controls > Software and look at SI Computer to find out which computer your vehicle has." The same note previously said "AI computer". The Model Y manual's FSD section now says that "the SI Computer installed in Model Y is designed to use this input, rapidly process neural networks, and make decisions to guide you to your destination".
The car itself has not caught up. On a vehicle running 2026.38.5.1, Drive Tesla found that the Software screen still shows "AI Computer: Full Self-Driving Computer 3".
Where "SI" comes from
Tesla's AI account on X has been renamed Tesla Super Intelligence, and SpaceX renamed its AI arm the same way earlier this month. Both outlets link the change to a US executive order of 29 September that directs federal agencies to say "Super Intelligence" instead of "Artificial Intelligence" in official communications.
It is the second rename in two years. Tesla previously turned Hardware 4 into AI4, while HW3 kept its name. Not a Tesla App expects the new scheme to read SI3 and SI4 for today's computers, and possibly SI5 for the AI5 chip now in trial production. Tesla has confirmed none of those labels.
Why owners should know the new name
In Europe, the computer generation decides what an owner gets. HW3 cars receive a cut-down build, FSD v14 Lite, and Tesla has said HW3 will not run unsupervised driving without a hardware upgrade. The Software screen is where owners check which computer they have, and it is the screen the manual now describes with the new name.
The system itself has already been renamed in Europe: Tesla's European websites call it Tesla Assisted Driving. If the SI label reaches the touchscreen in a coming update, a buyer checking a used car's Software screen for "AI4" may soon need to look for "SI" instead. Nothing about the hardware or its capabilities changes.
