David Moss has driven his Tesla Model 3 for 25,000 miles on FSD (Supervised) without a single steering correction, brake tap or any other intervention. He passed the mark on 9 August 2026, and by every account tracking these numbers, he is the first person to do it.

What the number actually counts

The streak is not cumulative FSD mileage. It is the distance since the last time the driver touched anything — one nudge of the wheel and the counter returns to zero.

Tesla began exposing this figure in FSD v14.2, which added a "Self-Driving Stats" section. v14.3.3 put an intervention-free streak widget on the driving screen, and v14.3.4 added celebration animations at milestones. When Moss crossed 25,000 miles, the car filled the screen with confetti — the same flourish it produces at 250, 500, 1,000 and 5,000 miles.

For scale, Sawyer Merritt put 25,000 miles at roughly one lap of the Earth, or about two years of driving for an average American.

Eight months of deliberate stress-testing

This did not happen by accident. Moss has spent the better part of eight months using his Model 3 as a rolling endurance test of Tesla's v14 stack. He previously logged close to 13,000 uninterrupted miles, and completed what was reported as the first intervention-free FSD drive across Canada. During this same streak, on 27 July, his car also set an EV Cannonball Run record.

That history matters when reading the headline figure. A single continuous run of this length needs the software to behave, the hardware not to fault, and the driver to accept an unusual amount of risk in declining to intervene.

Three caveats worth keeping

  • It is not a safety statistic. One car on one driver's route mix is an anecdote, however impressive. Fleet-wide numbers and independent work — like the dummy-on-a-pulley reaction-time test — say more about typical behaviour than any individual streak.
  • The counter is the car's own tally. There is no external audit of an intervention-free streak. It is what the vehicle reports.
  • FSD is still Supervised. The name has not changed. Not intervening is not the same as not needing to pay attention, and Tesla's driver monitoring — tightened again in v14.3.6 — still expects an attentive driver.

Why European owners should read it differently

The streak was set in North America, on a build Europe does not have. European cars have only recently been given a proper taste of the system at all, through the free two-month FSD trial Tesla opened to European owners, and the European stack trails the North American one.

European roads also make long streaks harder for reasons that have nothing to do with software quality: shorter trips, denser junctions, more roundabouts, more unprotected turns, narrower urban streets. Recent North American builds have been visibly uneven, too — v14.3.6 drew braking complaints that v14.3.7 was shipped to fix.

The honest reading is that Moss's number shows what the current stack can do in the right conditions, in the hands of someone determined to let it run. It is not a forecast for your commute.
