Spain sold 27,920 used battery-electric cars between January and September 2026, 39.8% more than a year earlier, according to the used-car dealers' association GANVAM. The best-selling of them was the Tesla Model 3, with 1,941 sales. The Model Y was second with 1,032, up 83%.

The model ranking comes from coches.net's quarterly report on used electric cars, compiled with GANVAM and published on 21 October; La Razón reproduced its figures. The two Teslas together account for 2,973 sales, or 10.6% of the used electric market on TeslAnt's arithmetic.

The ranking

Rank Model Used sales, Jan–Sep 2026 Change
1 Tesla Model 3 1,941 +10%
2 Tesla Model Y 1,032 +83%
3 Dacia Spring 972 +205%
4 Mercedes-Benz EQA 883 +11%
5 Renault Zoe 877 −2%
6 Mini Hatchback 803 +10%
7 Fiat 500 783 −16%
8 Smart Fortwo 538 −19%

The Model 3's growth of about 10% is well below the market's 39.8%. The Model Y is the faster riser of the two, while three small city cars in the top eight, the Zoe, the 500 and the Fortwo, are falling. The Dacia Spring tripled.

Fuel prices drive the demand

GANVAM and coches.net link the growth to fuel prices. In September petrol cost 27.5% more than a year earlier and diesel 34.3% more, and filling a tank cost almost €28 more. After three months of decline, interest in used electric cars on coches.net rose again in September, up 51.8% year on year. That figure measures activity on the site, not sales.

Used electric cars are still a small part of Spain's second-hand market. GANVAM counts 1.64 million used-car sales in the first nine months. Used plug-in hybrids, at 43,762 and up 46.9%, outsold pure electric cars.

Prices

The average used electric car on coches.net cost €30,737 at the end of the third quarter, 3.9% more than a year earlier but below the peak above €31,600 in May and June. The average fell in seven regions, most in La Rioja, down 24.8%, and Castilla-La Mancha, down 9.8%. Cantabria rose most, by 17.2%, ahead of Madrid at 12.1% and Murcia at 10.2%.

What it means for buyers

For a Spanish buyer, the Model 3 is the most traded used electric car, which makes it the easiest to compare on price and condition. The new alternative has also changed: the upgraded Model 3 has reached Spain's configurator. The pattern is not only Spanish. In Czechia, Tesla was also the most imported used electric brand this year.
