Spain registered 17,250 battery-electric cars in October 2026, 14.53% of the 118,725 passenger-car registrations in the same count. The Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling electric car, with 1,206 registrations. Among brands, though, BYD finished first, 702 cars ahead of Tesla.
The figures are Somos Eléctricos' count of the daily registration files of the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) up to 30 October, published on 1 November, a public holiday in Spain. The industry body ANFAC publishes its official October figures on Monday 2 November; they can differ slightly, because ANFAC uses its own cut of the same DGT data.

Forococheselectricos' daily DGT tracker, last updated on 30 October, had the same top four: BYD on 2,116, Tesla on 1,394, Leapmotor on 1,317 and Kia on 1,278.
The Model 3 alone made up about 77% of Tesla's total, while BYD's was spread across several models. Together, BYD, Leapmotor, Geely and Deepal registered 5,107 electric cars, 29.6% of the electric market.
Against last year, and against September
October 2025 was one of Tesla's weakest months in Spain: 393 registrations, 30.6% fewer than a year earlier, Electrek reported at the time. Forococheselectricos' incomplete count already put Tesla 255.6% above that; on Somos Eléctricos' fuller count it is about four times as many.
Against September, Tesla fell to well under half of its 3,732. Tesla delivers most of its European cars in each quarter's final month, so the first month of a quarter is usually its weakest.
The Model Y's 335 also fits the delivery queue Tesla has been quoting in Europe: early-October orders were given dates from January–February 2027, with no stock cars listed. Spain's upgraded Model 3 RWD was quoted for November–December.
The year so far
At the end of September, BYD was 123 registrations ahead of Tesla in Spain on ANFAC's January–September brand figures: 13,596 to 13,473. October's count adds another 702 to that lead.
What it means for buyers
Spain's electric market now has two leaders: Tesla sells the most popular electric model, and BYD is the biggest electric brand. Almost a quarter of October's electric registrations, 4,277 cars, came on 29 and 30 October alone, so ANFAC's official figures may move individual models by a place or two. For a Tesla buyer in Spain, the practical difference is the queue: the Model 3 RWD was quoted for this year, Model Y orders for 2027.
