Geely has spent the past year building chargers its own cars cannot fully use. The group's Zeekr-branded network advertises a single-gun peak of 1,500 kW, but the fastest Geely vehicles top out around 1,100 kW because they run 800-volt electrical systems. Geely Holding Group has now said it is developing a 1,000-volt architecture to close that gap.
The number that is actually binding
Charging power is voltage multiplied by current, and current is limited by what the cables, contactors and cells can survive as heat. Raising voltage is the cheaper way to more power, which is why the industry moved from 400 V to 800 V in the first place.
Geely's present cars are 800-volt class in name and slightly less in practice — the Lynk & Co 10 sedan's pack measures 772.8 V. On that hardware it charged from 10% to 80% in 5 minutes 32 seconds, and Geely's stated aim for the 1,000-volt architecture is to beat 5.5 minutes.

The infrastructure is already in place. As of March 2026 Geely's proprietary network ran to 2,103 stations across 215 cities, of which 1,216 were built for 1,500 kW, with 6,269 charging points sited in motorway service areas. A Zeekr 001 using the in-house 12C "Golden Battery" verified the 1,500 kW figure and managed 10–80% in roughly seven minutes on that test.
No production timeline has been given for the 1,000-volt cars.
Second, not first
This is a catch-up move. BYD has been shipping 1,000-volt cars since March 2025, quoting up to 1,000 kW and around 400 km of CLTC range added in five minutes, and Geely was only the second Chinese automaker to unveil 1,500 kW chargers. German analyst Jörn Schmidt put it sharply: anyone who wants 1,000-volt technology in a production car today buys the three-letter Chinese brand, not the five-letter one.
Infrastructure turns out to matter as much as the car. The same Lynk & Co 10 that peaked at 1,100 kW on Geely's own hardware managed only 430 kW at BYD's flash-charging stations — a headline rating and a delivered curve are not the same thing, and neither travels with the vehicle.
This is also a different announcement from Geely's 500 Wh/kg solid-state cell heading for pilot production in 2027. That one is about how much energy a pack holds; this one is about how fast it can be refilled.
Why a European Tesla driver should care
Because Geely is not a distant Chinese brand — it owns Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, Lynk & Co and smart, all of which sell in Europe. Charging technology proven in China on Zeekr hardware is the technology that turns up in a Polestar or a Volvo on European roads a couple of model cycles later.
The comparison is unflattering on paper. Tesla's passenger cars are 400-volt architecture, and Europe's fastest Tesla charging is the first 500 kW V4 Supercharger site, in Norway. Against a claimed 1,500 kW and a sub-six-minute 10–80%, that is a different order of magnitude.
Two caveats keep it honest. Peak power says little about the whole curve, and a five-minute charge quoted in China is measured on a proprietary network that does not exist in Europe — where grid connections, not cars, are the constraint. Tesla's advantage was never peak kilowatts; it was a network that works everywhere you point the car.
What changes if 1,000-volt cars ship is the benchmark. Charging speed has been a Tesla strength by default for a decade. It is becoming a specification rivals quote against, and 400 volts is the wrong side of that argument.
