A Slovak charge-point operator says it has pushed a megawatt into a passenger car at a motorway rest area, and the photograph it circulated shows 918 kW on the display. The number worth sitting with is not that one. It is 405 kW — the most a Tesla has ever been seen to take on the same company's hardware.
ejoin, the Dubnica nad Váhom manufacturer and operator that runs the second-largest charging network in Slovakia, reported a successful test of a 1 MW charging station intended for cars rather than trucks. It is the leading edge of a build-out along the Slovak stretch of the trans-European transport corridors.
What is going in, and where
The hardware is arriving at roughly a dozen motorway rest areas: Zlaté piesky, Červeník in both directions, Považská Bystrica, Predmier, Jarovce, Hybe in both directions, Levoča, Valaliky in both directions and Milhosť. Each site gets five to nine points for passenger cars, rated at 480 and 960 kW, and ten of the twelve locations carry both CCS2 and MCS connectors — MCS being the megawatt standard that makes the 1 MW headline physically possible. Four of the sites will also serve electric trucks. ejoin expects to open the locations to the public through the end of September 2026, with the exception of Hybe – Juh, which is waiting on its distribution connection.
The wider programme is larger still: at least thirty-five locations and 251 charging points, 219 of them for cars and light commercial vehicles.
One honest caveat about the test itself. ejoin did not say which car it used. The Slovak outlet teslamagazin.sk reasons from the evidence that it was a Denza Z9 GT on second-generation BYD Blade cells — a 122.5 kWh pack rated for 10 to 70 per cent in five minutes and 10 to 97 per cent in nine, which works out near a 10C rate. ejoin's own figure was a charge "within 7 minutes". Treat the vehicle as inference, not as a disclosed fact.
The charger stopped being the limit
ejoin's existing 600 kW hub in Bratislava has been Slovakia's showcase for exactly this point, because two cars have set records on it and neither was held back by the post.

The Cybertruck's peak was genuinely impressive and genuinely brief. Over the session it averaged 113 kW, taking one hour and two minutes and 118.8 kWh to reach 100 per cent. A 600 kW post gave it 405 kW for a moment; a 960 kW post will not give it appreciably more, because the constraint is the pack, not the cable.
What it changes for European drivers
This is the trap Geely's 1,000-volt architecture is built to escape. Tesla's advantage in Europe was never raw kilowatts — it was that the Supercharger worked, was priced clearly and was where you needed it. That advantage is eroding from the other direction too, as the Supercharger network's slide to fourth in J.D. Power's 2026 study showed, with cost doing the damage.
For a Slovak Tesla driver the practical effect of megawatt hardware on the D1 is modest: more posts, shorter queues, and a taper that starts in the same place it always did. For Tesla, a motorway network where rivals charge twice as fast is a specification problem it has not yet answered.
