Aviloo, the Austrian battery-diagnostics firm whose tests underpin much of the European used-EV trade, has published the first edition of its Battery Report. It draws on more than 500,000 battery tests carried out between 2022 and 2026 across 20 common electric models in North and South America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
The scale is the point. Most battery-health reporting rests on a handful of cars or an owner's screenshots, which is why "how much range will it have lost?" has stayed so hard to answer.
What the report measured
Aviloo reports state of health — the share of a pack's original usable capacity still available — as a median per model at three mileages: 50,000 km, 100,000 km and 150,000 km.

The Ioniq 5 leads at every milestone. The Model Y sits in the upper middle of the field: a typical example at 150,000 km still returns about 90% of the range it had when new, which on a Long Range car is a loss of roughly 50 km rather than the collapse the used market still prices in.
The Leaf is the outlier, and predictably so — it and the Renault Zoe are among the last EVs sold with air-cooled packs, and both age faster than the liquid-cooled field.
The finding Aviloo leads with is the spread, not the median
The report's headline conclusion is not which car wins. It is that blanket predictions about any model series are only partly possible, because the differences between individual cars of the same model grow as mileage rises. The Leaf showed 13.5 percentage points between its best and worst examples — the widest in the study.
Two structural patterns sit underneath that. Smaller batteries tend to degrade faster, because they need more charge cycles to cover the same distance. And climate shapes both ageing and charging behaviour, so the same model wears differently in Oslo and in Seville.
For a buyer, the model badge narrows the range of likely outcomes but does not settle it. A test on the specific car is worth more than any table.
What this does not tell you about a Model 3
One caution, because two Aviloo-based studies are now circulating and they are not the same thing. The detailed ranking here covers the Model Y. The Model 3's figures come from a separate and much smaller analysis — the Swedish Carla study of 9,954 tests, which measured a single milestone at 100,000 km and found the CATL LFP pack held 93.3% against 88.2% for the weakest Panasonic variant.
Different dataset, different method, different mileage. A Model 3 figure quoted against the 150,000 km column above is almost certainly a crossed wire.
Why this matters for European owners
From 29 November 2026, EU type-approval rules start setting legal floors for battery durability on newly approved car types: at least 80% of capacity after five years or 100,000 km, and 72% after eight years or 160,000 km. Those floors bind new type approvals rather than cars already on the road, but they establish the standard the market will judge against.
Measured against it, the Model Y's median of 90.3% at 150,000 km has a comfortable margin. Aviloo says the report will now appear twice a year, which will make the trend, rather than any single snapshot, the thing worth watching.
