Tesla's 2025.20.7 software update, released on July 17, delivers several practical safety and convenience features. The headline addition — Child Left Alone Detection — addresses a real-world concern for families, while camera and charging improvements refine the daily ownership experience.
Child Left Alone Detection
The most significant new feature uses Tesla's cabin camera to detect when a child is left unattended in the vehicle. If triggered, the car flashes its exterior lights, plays alert tones at regular intervals, and sends push notifications to the owner's Tesla app.
Critically, all data processing happens locally on the vehicle — no images or video are transmitted to Tesla's servers. The feature is enabled by default and can be disabled under Controls > Safety. For European owners concerned about GDPR compliance, the local-only processing is a meaningful design choice.
Forward Collision Warning Gets Haptic Feedback
Forward Collision Warning now adds haptic feedback (steering wheel vibration) alongside the existing audible and visual alerts. Warnings automatically cancel when the system determines the collision risk has reduced. This is enabled by default across all models.
Camera Improvements
The backup camera in the Camera app now toggles between narrow and wider field-of-view modes, making parking in tight European spaces more practical. Side camera feeds also display with an expanded field of view, improving visibility during lane changes.
Supercharging Live Activity
A welcome addition for road-trippers: you can now monitor your Supercharging session via iPhone Live Activity and paired Apple Watch. The feature requires Tesla app version 4.45.0 or later and iOS 17.2+. It shows charging progress without needing to open the app — useful when grabbing coffee at a rest stop.
Under-the-Hood Changes
Several undocumented changes shipped with this update:
- PIN to Drive is now enforced even with remote start via the app
- Trunk open warning alerts when shifting into drive with the trunk open
- Energy App now displays fleet average speed and energy savings estimates
- Dashcam Viewer supports wider video toggle and multi-delete functionality
- Blind spot camera is accessible simultaneously with the Camera app
- Microphone usage indicator (orange dot) appears during voice commands
Update Availability
2025.20.7 runs FSD versions 12.6.4 and 13.2.9. Rollout is gradual — check for updates under Controls > Software. European vehicles typically receive updates one to two weeks after the initial US rollout.
