Tesla's 2025.38 software update, which began rolling out in October and reached most European vehicles through November, packs a notable set of new features. The headline addition is Grok, xAI's conversational assistant, but several practical improvements to dashcam, navigation, and vehicle controls make this a substantial release.

Grok AI Assistant

Grok is now available as a beta feature in Tesla vehicles, accessible via the App Launcher or by pressing the voice button on the steering wheel. The assistant can answer questions, help with navigation queries, and engage in general conversation. Users can choose Grok's voice and personality.

Grok requires Premium Connectivity or a Wi-Fi connection. Tesla states that conversations remain anonymous and are not linked to the vehicle owner's identity. The feature is available on Model S, Model 3, Model X, Model Y, and Cybertruck.

3D Building Views

The map now displays detailed 3D buildings and cityscapes when you switch to Map View and tap the 3D icon. The feature adds visual context for urban navigation, making it easier to identify landmarks and orient yourself in dense city centres. Premium Connectivity is required.

Dashcam and Sentry Improvements

Three changes improve Tesla's built-in dashcam:

  • Street names now appear in dashcam event details, making it easier to identify where an incident occurred
  • Higher resolution streaming and downloads via the Mobile Dashcam Viewer (requires Tesla App 4.49.5 or later)
  • Side camera recording — the B-pillar cameras now record to both Dashcam and Sentry Mode clips, providing wider coverage

New Scroll Wheel Options

The left scroll wheel on the steering wheel gains new quick-access controls via a press-and-hold menu. Options include Bioweapon Defence Mode, Mute Navigation, and Music Light Sync, depending on the vehicle's hardware.

Other Additions

  • Apple Music gets an improved playlist view with folders, expanded artist pages, and a larger Recently Played shelf
  • Driver Profile Settings now include an option to require a phone key before selecting a driver profile
  • Onboarding Guide — a new walkthrough for Model 3 and Model Y owners, accessible via App Launcher > Manual > Get To Know Your Tesla

FSD v14.2 for North America

Bundled with the 2025.38 branch, FSD v14.2 (build 2025.38.9.5) added a Self-Driving Stats feature that displays the percentage of travel completed using FSD Supervised. This feature is currently limited to North American vehicles with FSD access.
