Tesla has cancelled its plans to sell the Cybertruck in Australia and New Zealand. Reservation holders in both countries received an email on Friday 23 October 2026, local time, headed "Important Update to Your Cybertruck Reservation". "After careful consideration, plans to produce Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand have been discontinued," it says. "As a result, we're unable to fulfil your reservation and it will be cancelled. You'll receive a full refund for any payments made."
A spokesperson for Tesla in the two markets confirmed to Reuters that Tesla "has decided not to proceed with plans to produce Cybertruck for Australia and New Zealand". The company gave no reason. The truck has also been removed from Tesla's Australian website, CarExpert reports.

Seven years of maybe
Tesla took Australian deposits from November 2019, the month the Cybertruck was unveiled, and New Zealand's order book was open by the end of that month. Tesla closed new Australian reservations in May 2022, along with those in other markets, The Driven reported at the time. A left-hand-drive truck later toured Australian showrooms from April 2024.
As recently as March 2025, Thom Drew, Tesla's country director for Australia, said the company was "making a case to bring it here in right-hand drive", EV Central reported. In May 2025, after a briefing on the Australian Design Rules, he listed what that would take: "small changes to bumper widths, some external lighting requirements, and obviously left to right-hand drive" (EV Central).
That case has now been lost. The Cybertruck is built only in left-hand drive and is not sold in any right-hand-drive market. Outside North America it is delivered in South Korea and in the Middle East, where deliveries began in January 2026, according to Electrek. In the US, Tesla raised its price by $5,000 in August as sales fell.
What it means for Europe
Tesla's email names only Australia and New Zealand, but those were the right-hand-drive markets where Tesla had publicly discussed a version. Britain and Ireland, Europe's right-hand-drive markets, have never had the truck on sale.
In continental Europe the Cybertruck has never been on sale and has no EU type approval. TeslAnt looked at how a transatlantic deal on vehicle standards could change that in August 2025, and Tesla has announced no European plan since. For European Tesla buyers, nothing changes.
