Tesla's September 2025 software update (version 2025.32.7) introduces meaningful safety and efficiency improvements, led by a frontal airbag system that leverages the company's camera-based perception stack.
Tesla Vision Frontal Airbag Enhancement
The headline feature uses Tesla Vision — the company's camera-only perception system — to improve frontal airbag deployment timing during crashes. By analysing the approach characteristics of an impending collision through exterior cameras, the system can prepare airbag deployment before traditional physical impact sensors would trigger.
This represents a practical application of Tesla's investment in camera-based AI beyond autonomous driving. The feature is available on select 2022 and newer Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, as well as newer Model S and Model X units equipped with Tesla Vision hardware.
Low Power Mode
A new Low Power Mode helps conserve battery while the vehicle is parked by disabling energy-consuming background features. Owners can activate it manually or set it to engage automatically when the battery reaches a specified percentage. It is particularly useful for long-term airport parking or overnight stays in cold weather, where phantom drain has long been an owner complaint.
FSD Safety Adjustments
The update tightens several Full Self-Driving parameters. Strike forgiveness — the window during which FSD deactivation penalties expire — has been shortened from seven days to 3.5 days, requiring more consistent attentive driving. Summon Standby now automatically disables between midnight and 6 AM, or after 24 hours of parking, reducing the risk of phantom activations.
PIN to Drive now supports the Start FSD from Park feature, adding an extra security layer for owners who want to prevent unauthorised use of the autonomous driving system.
Smaller Changes
Dog Mode's minimum cabin temperature has been lowered to 64°F (17.8°C), giving owners more flexibility in mild weather. Battery range estimates have been refined for older models. The Rave Cave light synchronisation feature now remembers user preferences and auto-activates when shifting into Park.
Update: The Tesla Vision airbag enhancement rolled out globally through late 2025. Euro NCAP separately named the Model 3 the safest new car in Europe for 2025.
