Drop-in fast charging in Norway has become more expensive in two rounds this autumn, and none of the large operators has cut its price. On 9 October Eviny raised its price from NOK 5.89 to 6.49 per kWh, Mer went from 6.29 to 6.49 and Uno-X from 5.50 to 5.90, Elbil RADAR reported. That followed a September round recorded in Elbil24's price check of 24 September, which found Circle K, Recharge, St1, Kople, Ionity and Tesla's Superchargers all dearer than at its previous check. Teknokratiet put the two together on 22 October.

What a kilowatt-hour costs without a subscription

Operator NOK per kWh Latest change
Ionity (app) 5.32 +0.32 (September check)
Tesla Supercharger, other brands 5.42 +0.64 (September check)
Uno-X 5.90 +0.40 (9 October)
St1 5.99 +1.00 (September check)
Kople 6.12 +0.23 (September check)
Circle K 6.49 +0.50 (September check)
Eviny 6.49 +0.60 (9 October)
Mer 6.49 +0.20 (9 October)
Recharge 6.79 +0.30 (September check)

Ionity and Tesla now set prices station by station, and Tesla also varies them through the day, so both figures are Elbil24's weighted averages over five stations. Kople's is a weighted 24-hour average. The September changes are measured against Elbil24's previous check, which the article does not date.

Where Tesla sits

For a driver of another brand without a subscription, the Supercharger average of NOK 5.42 is second only to Ionity's app price, even after a 64-øre rise, the second-largest in the table after St1's full krone. Tesla owners pay less: Elbil24's five-station average for them was NOK 3.93, up 28 øre. Drivers of other brands can get the same rate with Tesla's NOK 135-a-month membership.

On a 50 kWh stop, that is about NOK 197 for a Tesla owner, NOK 271 for another brand at a Supercharger without a membership, and NOK 340 at Recharge's drop-in price, by TeslAnt's arithmetic.

Subscriptions pay back quickly

Subscription NOK per kWh Monthly fee
Ionity Power 3.19 NOK 136
Tesla membership, other brands 3.93 NOK 135
Ionity Motion 3.99 NOK 65
Recharge Move 4.79 NOK 69

Ionity Motion saves NOK 1.33 per kWh against Ionity's own app price, Teknokratiet notes, so its fee is earned back after 49 kWh a month. Tesla's membership saves NOK 1.49 per kWh against the five-station average for other brands, so it pays for itself after roughly 91 kWh a month.

One fewer competitor?

Eviny wants to buy Mer. On the day of the October increases, the Norwegian Competition Authority (Konkurransetilsynet) said it would examine closely what the deal would do to competition, and it has not yet decided whether to intervene, according to Elbil RADAR. The two already charge the same NOK 6.49. If the deal goes through, Norway's motorways lose one of the networks that set that price.
