BMW Group reported its third-quarter deliveries on 13 October 2026. It handed over 110,257 battery-electric cars worldwide in July to September, up 7.2% on a year earlier, while total deliveries fell 6.3% to 551,072. One car in five was fully electric. Over nine months the picture is weaker: 314,552 electric cars, down 2.7%, inside a group total of 1,707,799, down 4.9%.
Europe carried the quarter
The growth is almost all European. BMW and MINI delivered 81,941 electric cars in Europe in the quarter, up 37.5%, and 34.7% of everything they sold on the continent was electric. Germany rose 38.5%, with no unit figure given. China fell 24.8% overall, the United States rose 2.5%, and the group gives no regional electric split outside Europe. Jochen Goller, the board member for sales, said that "in difficult market conditions, we were able to hold our own in Europe and the US" and that new orders for electric cars "confirm our course". The release repeats the figure of more than 100,000 European orders for the iX3, which TeslAnt examined in September, and says the Neue Klasse i3 saloon has just launched.

Where Tesla stands
Tesla delivered 486,532 cars in the same quarter, down 2.1%, and does not split them by region. Among the German groups that have reported, Volkswagen Group delivered 240,200 electric cars, down 4.7% with Europe up 19.6% to 209,100, and Mercedes-Benz sold a record 68,400. Volvo Cars' electric sales rose 29% in the quarter.
| Maker, Q3 2026 BEV deliveries | Units | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Tesla | 486,532 | -2.1% |
| Volkswagen Group | 240,200 | -4.7% |
| BMW Group | 110,257 | +7.2% |
| Mercedes-Benz Cars | 68,400 | record |
BMW's European electric volume of 81,941 is now well above a third of its total there, which is the mix Tesla has by definition and that Volkswagen reaches only on its order book. The difference is direction: BMW's European electric deliveries grew 37.5% in a quarter in which its Chinese business shrank by a quarter, so the group's electric growth depends on one region.
What this means for a European Tesla owner
BMW is the premium maker closest to Tesla in European electric volume, and its growth is coming from the segments the Model 3 and Model Y occupy: the iX3 against the Model Y, the i3 saloon against the Model 3, and the MINI range below both. One in three BMW and MINI sales in Europe being electric means the comparison shoppers see in a BMW showroom is no longer an exception. The nine-month figures also show the limit: the group's global electric deliveries are still below last year, and the Chinese decline is not offset. The next data point is the Q3 earnings release in early November, which should give margins per powertrain.
