Tesla has turned its Supercharger network into a year-long contest. The newly announced 2026 Free Supercharging Competition will hand nine owners free Supercharging for as long as they keep their car — and for many drivers, the qualifying period is already under way.
How the nine winners are chosen
Tesla has split the world into three regions: the Americas, Asia-Pacific (excluding China), and EMEA — Europe, the Middle East and Africa, with some country exclusions. Three winners are crowned in each region, one per category:
| Category | How it's measured |
|---|---|
| Longest Trip | Chaining unique Supercharger locations, with a new site visited within 24 hours of the last stop to keep the streak alive |
| Most Unique Locations | Visiting the most distinct Supercharger sites across 2026, with no 24-hour timer |
| Most Energy Consumed | The highest total kilowatt-hours drawn from Superchargers during the year |
The "Longest Trip" rules are strict: repeat stops are allowed, but you must reach a new, previously unvisited location to reset the 24-hour clock and keep the chain going.
You may already be entered
The contest builds on the Charging Passport, a digital travel log Tesla rolled out late last year that works like a year-in-review for your charging. Crucially, charging sessions that happened before the competition was announced in June 2026 still count — so a driver who has spent the year road-tripping may already be near the top of a leaderboard without knowing it.
To be eligible, owners need to:
- Enable the Share Charging Data with Tesla App toggle in vehicle settings.
- Open the 2026 Passport section in the Tesla app before 1 January 2027.
Who can't win
Tesla has carved out several exclusions. Owners who already have free Supercharging, anyone using their car for ride-sharing or delivery, and Tesla employees and their families are all ineligible. Some countries within the EMEA region are also excluded, so European owners should check the official terms before counting on a spot.
Timeline
The qualifying window runs through the end of 2026. Tesla will notify winners by email in January 2027, and the free Supercharging benefit will be applied to each winning vehicle before 1 March 2027.
A pattern of gamification
The competition is the latest in a string of moves to make ownership more engaging rather than purely transactional — from charging badges to the Passport itself. For European owners who travel widely across the continent's expanding Supercharger network, the "Most Unique Locations" category in particular rewards exactly the kind of cross-border touring the network was built for. There is no entry fee and no extra app to download; the only real cost is the electricity you were going to buy anyway.
