Tesla reopened orders for the Model S and Model X in continental Europe on 22 October, ending a three-month pause that began in July. The refreshed flagships come with meaningful hardware improvements and Europe’s first deliveries are expected in November.
What Changed
The updates are evolutionary rather than revolutionary, but they address real-world complaints. Both models receive revised air suspension with new bushings, which Tesla says improves ride comfort and dynamic handling. A new front-facing camera with integrated wash and heating elements — the same unit now fitted to the Model 3 and Model Y — improves vision system reliability in bad weather.
Additional upgrades include blind spot monitoring and adaptive headlights, features that European buyers have increasingly expected from vehicles in this price segment.
Specs and Pricing
| Model | Starting Price | WLTP Range | Drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model S Long Range | €109,990 | 744 km | AWD |
| Model X Long Range | €114,990 | 590 km | AWD |
The Model S’s 744 km WLTP figure makes it the longest-range Tesla currently on sale — comfortably ahead of the Model 3 Long Range at 750 km on paper, though the Model 3 achieves that with a smaller, lighter package. For buyers who need a full-size saloon with genuine long-distance capability, few alternatives come close.
The European Challenge
The premium EV segment in Europe is more competitive than ever. The Mercedes EQS, Porsche Taycan, and BMW i7 all compete for the same buyers, and those brands carry stronger dealership networks across the continent. Tesla pulled the Model S and X from its European configurator in July, leading some to speculate whether the models would return at all.
They have — but at prices that limit their audience. At €110,000+, these are niche products even by Tesla standards. The real question is whether the refreshed hardware and record-setting range can carve out a sustainable European customer base.
Update: Reports suggest that initial demand for the refreshed Model S and X in Europe has been modest.
