Tesla retired Deep Blue Metallic worldwide on May 8, 2026 and replaced it in North America with two new options: Marine Blue, a deep oceanic hue offered on mainstream trims, and Frost Blue, a lighter metallic shade reserved for Performance trims. The change ends a long run for Deep Blue Metallic and reshuffles the blue palette across Tesla's two best-selling cars, with notable differences between what US, Canadian, and European buyers can actually order today (Tesla Just Killed Deep Blue Metallic and Replaced It with Two New Colors).
What Each Color Looks Like and Costs
Marine Blue is a deep, rich oceanic blue that takes Deep Blue Metallic's slot as the mainstream blue offering on Model 3 and Model Y. In the US it is a $1,000 upgrade and is available on the RWD and Long Range AWD Premium variants. The color is not entirely new to the lineup: Marine Blue has been available in Europe and Asia-Pacific for some time and is now extending to the US and Canada as part of the same paint refresh (Tesla launches new blue colors for higher Model Y and Model 3 trims (prices, availability, comparison)).
Frost Blue is the more striking arrival. Previously a Model S and Model X exclusive, it is now offered on Model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance trims at no extra charge. It is a lighter metallic blue that contrasts sharply with the deeper Marine Blue and gives Performance buyers a more distinctive option without an upcharge (Tesla Introduces New Paint Colors for Model 3 and Model Y in North America). At launch, Frost Blue is restricted to the US, Puerto Rico, and Mexico (Tesla expands its mass-market color palette in the U.S.).

The Canadian gap is not a marketing decision but a supply-chain one. Tariffs have pushed Tesla to import Model Y Performance units for Canada from Gigafactory Berlin, whose paint shop is set up for the European palette. As a result, Canadian Model Y Performance buyers cannot currently select Frost Blue, even though their counterparts a short drive south can (Tesla introduces two new blue paint colours for Model 3 and Model Y in the U.S. — here's why Canada only gets one).
What This Means for European Buyers
For European customers the practical impact is small but worth understanding. Marine Blue remains on the configurator as it has been for some time, so anyone who wanted that specific shade still has it. Tesla typically prices Marine Blue at the European equivalent of the US $1,000 option, but buyers should check the local configurator for the exact figure in their market.
Frost Blue, however, is not yet a European option. Because Gigafactory Berlin's paint shop runs the European palette, cars built in Berlin currently come out in Marine Blue rather than Frost Blue. That same Berlin-sourced supply is what flows north to Canada, which is why both regions are aligned on what they can and cannot order. If Tesla extends Frost Blue to Europe later, it will likely require a paint-shop reconfiguration in Berlin rather than a simple software toggle in the configurator.
