Tesla has quietly widened the colour palette of its best-selling car in Europe. On 5 June 2026, Tesla's Europe, Middle East & Africa account confirmed that Coastal Blue is now available for the rear-wheel-drive Model Y across European configurators — the entry-level version of the car that, until now, offered the narrowest choice of finishes.
What Coastal Blue is
Coastal Blue is a new metallic shade produced at Gigafactory Berlin, the plant that builds Model Y for the European market. It lists at €1,300 in the configurator, in line with Tesla's other premium metallic options, and brings the number of paint choices on the base rear-wheel-drive Model Y to four.
In Tesla's current European line-up, the new shade slots between two existing blues. It is lighter and more saturated than the deep Marine Blue offered on the Premium and Performance trims, and considerably richer than the pale, icy Frost Blue. The effect is a mid-tone coastal hue that gives entry buyers a blue option without having to step up to a pricier trim.
| Blue option | Where it sits | Trim availability |
|---|---|---|
| Frost Blue | Pale, icy | Selected trims |
| Coastal Blue | Mid-tone metallic | Base rear-wheel-drive (new) |
| Marine Blue | Deep, saturated | Premium / Performance |
Why it matters for European buyers
The base rear-wheel-drive Model Y is the volume seller in most European markets, and its colour list has historically been the most limited in the range. Adding Coastal Blue gives the cheapest configuration a distinct, non-standard finish for the first time, narrowing the visual gap with the more expensive variants.
It also follows a wider refresh of the entry Model Y in Europe. As TeslAnt reported, the black headliner and 16-inch centre screen are now standard across the Model Y range, reaching the entry rear-wheel-drive car in Europe at around the same time. Coastal Blue layers a cosmetic upgrade on top of those cabin changes.
A European exclusive — for now
For the moment, Coastal Blue is restricted to European markets. That mirrors how Tesla has introduced colours before: Marine Blue launched as a European exclusive in late 2025 before reaching North America the following spring. On that precedent, Coastal Blue could follow the same path and expand to other regions later, though Tesla has not confirmed any timeline.
Buyers configuring a rear-wheel-drive Model Y in Europe should see the new option live now. As always with metallic finishes, the in-person appearance shifts noticeably with light and angle, so a showroom or delivery-centre look is worth the trip before committing the €1,300.
