Tesla launched the Model 3 Standard in Europe on December 5, introducing the most affordable Model 3 available in the region. Starting from €36,990 in France and Italy (€37,970 in Germany), the new variant undercuts key competitors and signals Tesla's intent to fight for volume in a market where its sales have fallen sharply.
Pricing and Positioning
| Market | Price |
|---|---|
| Germany | €37,970 |
| France | €36,990 |
| Italy | €36,990 |
| Norway | NOK 330,056 |
| Sweden | SEK 449,990 |
The Standard sits nearly 20% below the Long Range variant, placing it in direct competition with the BYD Atto 3 (€37,990 in Germany), the Volvo EX30 (from €36,000), and the Volkswagen ID.3 Pure (around €29,760 with subsidies, though with significantly less range).
What You Lose
To reach the lower price point, Tesla stripped several comfort features:
- Seats: Partially textile upholstery replaces full vegan leather
- Rear display: The 8-inch rear screen is removed entirely
- Heated rear seats: Gone
- Audio: Downgraded to 7 speakers with no subwoofer or amplifiers
- Wheels: Steel wheels with plastic covers replace alloy rims
- Roof: Standard glass roof instead of the panoramic option
The Model 3 Standard retains the same 534 km WLTP range and 0–100 km/h in 6.2 seconds — the powertrain and battery are unchanged. It also gains FM radio, a feature some European markets still value.
Why It Matters
Tesla's European registrations dropped over 36% year-over-year in November 2025, excluding the Norway outlier. The Model 3 Standard directly addresses the price gap that has allowed Chinese competitors to gain ground. At €36,990, it is the cheapest new Tesla available in Europe and sits below most comparable mid-size EV sedans.
Whether the feature sacrifices prove acceptable to European buyers remains to be seen. Textile seats and steel wheels may feel like a step back for a brand that built its reputation on premium tech. But for fleet operators, second-car buyers, and anyone prioritising range over refinement, the Model 3 Standard fills a clear gap in Tesla's European lineup.
