Tesla quietly added a new entry point to its European Model Y lineup on 9 January 2026. The Model Y Standard Long Range RWD appeared in German and Dutch configurators at EUR 46,990, undercutting the existing all-wheel-drive Long Range by several thousand euros.
Specs That Matter
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Range (WLTP) | 657 km |
| Efficiency | 12.7 kWh / 100 km |
| Drivetrain | Rear-wheel drive |
| Cargo volume | 2,118 litres |
| Computer | AI4 (FSD-ready) |
The 657 km WLTP rating makes this the longest-range Model Y currently available in Europe, and the 12.7 kWh/100 km figure makes it Tesla's most efficient SUV ever. Tesla Europe described it simply as "our most efficient Model Y to date."
Competitive Positioning
The pricing is aggressive. At EUR 46,990 in Germany, the Standard Long Range RWD undercuts the Audi Q4 e-tron by approximately EUR 5,000 while offering superior range. It also comes in below the Peugeot e-3008, which starts from around EUR 47,000 in most European markets. The Ford Mustang Mach-E, at a comparable price point, offers significantly less range.
For buyers who do not need all-wheel drive — and in most of Western Europe, they do not — this variant eliminates the efficiency penalty of a second motor while extending range past 650 km.
The AI4 Computer
Every unit ships with Tesla's AI4 hardware, the compute platform required for Full Self-Driving. With FSD regulatory approval in Europe potentially months away (the Dutch RDW is testing the system), buyers of this variant will be hardware-ready from day one.
What This Means for Europe
After a brutal 2025 that saw European registrations fall 28%, Tesla needs volume. The Standard Long Range RWD targets the largest segment of European buyers: those who want maximum range at the lowest possible price, without the complexity of dual motors.
Early January registration data from Germany already shows a slight uptick, though it is too soon to attribute that to this variant alone. What is clear is that Tesla is no longer relying solely on price cuts to compete — it is offering a genuinely differentiated product at a competitive price point.
