The first full month of Model Y Juniper deliveries in Europe produced a mixed scorecard. While the refreshed SUV topped BEV charts overall, its impact varied dramatically by country.

Country-by-Country Results: March 2025

Country March 2025 YoY Change Assessment
Norway 2,211 -1% Steady — Model Y still #1 new car
Italy Growth +51.3% Strong rebound
Spain Growth +34.3% Strong rebound
Portugal 1,209 +2.1% Slight growth
France 3,159 -36.8% Still declining
Netherlands 1,536 -61.0% Severe decline
Sweden 911 -63.9% Severe decline
Denmark 595 -65.5% Severe decline
Austria 815 -34.0% Moderate decline

The pattern is clear: southern European markets responded well to the Juniper, while northern markets — particularly the Nordics and Benelux — continued their steep declines.

Norway: Holding the Line

In Norway, the Model Y remained the country's single best-selling new vehicle in March with 1,822 units of the total 2,211 Tesla registrations. The near-flat year-over-year result in a market where Tesla had already achieved deep penetration suggests the Juniper is sustaining existing demand rather than expanding it.

The Southern Surprise

Italy's 51% growth and Spain's 34% jump are notable because these markets had lower Tesla penetration to begin with. The Juniper's upgraded interior and competitive pricing appear to be winning new buyers in markets where Tesla was previously a niche choice.

Why the North Is Different

The Nordic and Benelux declines predate the Juniper launch and reflect factors beyond product: brand sentiment, competition from local-market favourites (Volvo EX30 in Sweden, VW ID models in the Netherlands), and the absence of the more affordable RWD variant, which had not yet launched in March.

What to Expect Next

The RWD Standard Range version of the Model Y Juniper is expected to broaden the lineup's price appeal. If Tesla prices it below €45,000, it could recapture volume buyers who defected to alternatives during the transition gap.

Update (March 2026): The RWD variant launched later in 2025 and helped stabilise volumes, but Tesla's full-year European registrations still declined. The Juniper's strongest sustained impact was in southern and eastern Europe.
